A Comparative Assessment of Chromium-Boron Hardfacing Using SMAW and FCAW Techniques. [PDF]
This research paper investigates the effectiveness of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and flux‐cored arc welding (FCAW) on mild steel substrates for chromium–boron hardfacing. Chromium–boron alloys are hard‐wearing and corrosion‐resistant materials used in industries where wear resistance is critical.

Corrosion surface morphology‐based methodology for fatigue assessment of offshore welded structures
Abstract This work employed a novel corrosion‐based fatigue model to determine the fatigue life of offshore welded structures to enable the fatigue assessment of welds under corrosive conditions. In addition to the material's ultimate strength, endurance limit, and stress ratio (mean stress effect), the model includes a corrosion factor concept to ...

Stress corrosion damage containing pitting and cracking was investigated for NiCrMoV steel‐welded joint used in nuclear turbine rotor in 3.5% NaCl solution. The U‐bend specimen containing tensile face and compressive face was adopted which was conducive to study the effects of stress on pitting and stress corrosion cracking.

Indentation Plastometry of Welds
Profilometry‐based indentation plastometry (PIP) is applied to samples cut from submerged arc welds, obtaining stress–strain curves from small regions (≈1 mm wide and 0.3 mm deep). This mapping has revealed variations across both parent and weldment, particularly close to the fusion boundary. These are correlated with microstructural effects.

Tensile and impact strengths of 304L SS stainless steel weldment prepared at different levels of heat treatments and with vibratory assistance were studied and compared with the conventional process of welding. The results reveal that the microstructures of weld joints after heat treatment and vibratory welded joints attained a fine grain structure ...

Friction stir welding is a method used to weld together materials considered challenging by fusion welding. FSW is primarily a solid phase method that has been proven efficient due to its ability to manufacture low‐cost, low‐distortion welds. The quality of weld and stresses can be determined by calculating the amount of heat transferred.
