Numerical simulation of wave attenuation and shoreline response in a coastal region with submerged breakwater

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
The non-hydrostatic numerical model NHWAVE was employed to investigate the hydrodynamic behavior of a coastal region with submerged breakwater, focusing on the structural dimensions and incident wave conditions. In the numerical experiment, regular waves

Relational Food Geographies, Underwater: Discussing Food and Oceans' Entanglements Along Urban Waterfronts

open access: yesGeography Compass, Volume 20, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Food is emerging as a geographical lens to investigate socioecological relations. A growing body of research is exploring food in the city, considering it not only as a commodity but also as an archive of practices and their spatial and ecological transformations.

Wave transformation over submerged permeable breakwater on porous bottom

open access: yes, 2014
A numerical model is presented in this study to investigate the wave transformation over a submerged permeable breakwater on a porous slope seabed. For this purpose, the time-dependent mild-slope equation is newly derived for waves propagating over two ...

The hard and soft of it: The role of substrate in patterns of phase dominance and phenology in Gracilaria vermiculophylla

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 2, Page 377-399, April 2026.
Abstract Despite the importance of the seasonal timing of events in the life cycle for understanding population dynamics, we lack information on the phenology of most macroalgal species. The red macroalga Gracilaria vermiculophylla has become common in both hard‐ and soft‐bottom habitats following its invasion throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

Wave Reflection on Interlocking Concrete Block Submerged Breakwater

open access: yesJurnal Teknik Hidraulik, 2018
When a large dimension of rock needed for an armored layer of breakwater, the scarcity of it became a major adversity, because of that many research subject of using concrete as a substitute for rock performed.

Morphological instability in restored intertidal flats: How anthropogenic structures drive early‐stage evolution

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
The study focusses on the morphological evolution of worldwide restored intertidal flats. These intertidal flats initially experience high sedimentation rates after the opening of the connection with open waters. The anthropogenic structures cause high morphological instability and are eroded, leading to a self‐cannibalisation of the system.

Hybrid one-line/ 2DH model of submerged breakwater for coastal protection

open access: yes
Submerged breakwaters, like natural reefs, have the potential to promote the resilience of beaches by creating a buffer against waves and generating circulation patterns that retain sand.

Numerical Simulation of Solitary Wave Induced Flow Motion around a Permeable Submerged Breakwater

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
This paper presents a numerical model for the simulation of solitary wave transformation around a permeable submerged breakwater. The wave-structure interaction is obtained by solving the Volume-Averaged Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes governing ...

Numerical Study over the Effects of a Designed Submerged Breakwater on the Coastal Sediment Transport in the Pescara Harbour (Italy)

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
In 1997, in front of the Pescara Harbour (Italy), a detached breakwater was constructed. In the successive years, the sediment transport due to the combined action of waves and coastal currents, in the area between the detached breakwater and the ...

Analysis of Turbulent Modeling for Free‐Surface Flows Using a Hybrid RANS‐LES Model and Particle‐Based Moving Particle Semi‐Implicit Method

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, Volume 98, Issue 3, Page 321-347, March 2026.
A hybrid RANS‐LES turbulence model adapted for the Moving Particle Semi‐implicit method is employed to investigate a turbulent free surface flow. A method based on the cell‐linked list is proposed to speed up the nearest wall search for the turbulence model.
