Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Hydraulic Efficiency of Crump Gabion Weirs under Submerged Flow Condition [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی منابع آب, 2019
Weirs are usually constructed by concrete and are impervious so that the water can only flow above the crest. In this between, Gabion weirs with instinctive characteristics including stability, conductivity and economic justification are strongly advised.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Superlubricity and Corrosion Inhibition Properties of Solvate Ionic Liquids in Hybrid Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic–Steel Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Solvate ionic liquids lubrication reduced the coefficient of friction by ∼60% compared to dry sliding, reaching steady‐state values as low as 0.04–0.05. Corrosion weight‐loss measurements in 1 M HCl further demonstrated significant inhibition behavior, with only 100 ppm of [Li(G3)][TFSI] (∼68.5 μL/L) reducing corrosion‐product weight loss by 63 ...

Regulated Ion‐Diffusion Hydrogels for Subtle and Multimodal Temperature‐Strain Sensing in Wound Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, dual‐channel hydrogel patch enables simultaneous detection of wound temperature and strain by integrating ion‐diffusion‐mediated thermoelectric and resistive sensing. The conformal design maintains stable performance during motion, capturing subtle inflammatory and mechanical changes for continuous wound monitoring.

Turbulent Flow in Wetlands with Submerged and Floating Vegetation

open access: yesJournal of Computers, 2011
Turbulent Flow in wetlands with submerged and floating aquatic plants was studied by applying Boit’s poroelastic theory to turbulent flow. The velocity distribution formulas were described by solving the modified Bessel equations. The effects of plant porosity and turbulent coefficient on the velocity distribution, shear stress distribution and energy ...

Montana Flume Flow Corrections under Submerged Flow

open access: yesJournal of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering, 2012
AbstractA Montana flume is a Parshall flume without a diverging downstream section and is used to measure open channel flow. Under free-flow conditions, the Parshall flume and the Montana flume have the same calibration characteristics, but under submerge flows, their calibrations significantly differ.

Single‐Step Recovery of Water from Stable Crude Oil‐Water Emulsion Using Surface Engineered Hybrid Inorganic‐Polymer Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Atomic layer deposition is used to conformally surface engineer polymeric membranes to fabricate inorganic–organic hybrid membranes. These membranes have exceptionally strong attraction toward water even in high oil containing emulsions, which leads to an extremely strong hydration layer at the interface.

Influences of different hydraulic gradients on flow structures near submerged spur dike

open access: yesShuili Shuiyun Gongcheng Xuebao, 2017
Using ultrasonic wave and PIV technical methods for measuring water level and velocity respectively, the influences of different hydraulic gradients on the flow structures near a submerged spur dike are studied by laboratory experiments in a U-shape ...
