Higher harmonics induced by a submerged horizontal plate and a submerged rectangular step in a wave flume [PDF]

open access: yesCoastal Engineering, 2009
The decomposition of a monochromatic wave over a submerged plate is investigated experimentally in a wave flume. Bound and free higher harmonic modes propagating upstream and downstream the structure are discriminated by means of moving resistive probes.

Wave Motion Control Over Submerged Horizontal Plates [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 7: Ocean Engineering, 2015
The interaction of surface gravity waves with horizontal pitching plate for actively control waves is investigated based on the linearized theory of water waves. The two dimensional problem is formulated for the submerged plate pitching about its middle point and the other plate is considered to be floating above the submerged plate.

Scattering of Short‐Wave Groups by Submerged Horizontal Plate [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1991
A fully submerged horizontal plate has been suggested as a breakwater. With a proper design in the length, thickness, and submerged depth of the plate, most of the incoming short waves can indeed be reflected. The method of eigenfunction expansion is used to solve for the reflection and transmission of the short waves.

Solitary Waves Incident on a Submerged Horizontal Plate

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Engineering, 2014
AbstractWave scattering of a solitary wave traveling over a submerged horizontal plate was studied. Experiments for normal incidence were conducted in a wave flume, with a horizontal plate suspended at two different depths in the middle of the flume.

Wave motion over a submerged breakwater with an upper horizontal porous plate and a lower horizontal solid plate

Ocean Engineering, 2008
This study examines the hydrodynamic performance of a modified two-layer horizontal-plate breakwater. The breakwater consists of an upper submerged horizontal porous plate and a lower submerged horizontal solid plate. By means of the matched eigenfunction expansion method, a linear analytical solution is developed for the interaction of water waves ...

Scattering of water wave by a submerged horizontal plate and a submerged permeable breakwater

Ocean Engineering, 1998
Abstract Based on a two-dimensional linear water wave theory, this study develops the boundary element method (BEM) to examine normally incident wave scattering by a fixed, submerged, horizontal, impermeable plate and a submerged permeable breakwater in water of finite depth. Numerical results for the transmission coefficients are also presented.

Nonlinear scattering of non-breaking waves by a submerged horizontal plate: Experiments and simulations [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Engineering, 2009
Abstract Brossard et al. ([2009. Coastal Engineering 56, 11–22], hereinafter referred to as BPBD) presented an experimental study of the higher harmonics induced by a submerged horizontal plate and a submerged rectangular step. In this paper we present a numerical study of the wave scattering by a submerged thin plate as described in BPBD.

Transmission of oblique incident waves by a submerged horizontal porous plate

Ocean Engineering, 2013
Abstract The interaction of oblique monochromatic incident waves with a submerged horizontal porous plate has been investigated in the context of two-dimensional linear potential theory. The matched eigenfunction expansion method is applied to obtain the analytic solution. The present formulations, suggested by Molin and Nielsen (2004) and Liu and

Wave forces on a submerged horizontal plate–Part II: Solitary and cnoidal waves [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluids and Structures, 2015
This paper is the companion to Part I under the same title, and is mainly concerned with wave loads due to nonlinear waves of solitary and cnoidal type propagating over a submerged, horizontal and thin plate.
