Instabilities and patterns in a submerged jelling jet

Soft Matter, 2021
When a thin stream of aqueous sodium alginate is extruded into a reacting calcium chloride bath, it polymerizes into a soft elastic tube that spontaneously forms helical coils due to the ambient fluid drag.

Modes of a Submerged Jet

The Physics of Fluids, 1972
An asymptotic expansion is presented for investigating the modes of a submerged jet. It is shown in the second approximation that the submerged jet has various types of flow in quite a wide range of its momentum flux.

Jetting and entrainment from submerged orifices. [PDF]

open access: possible, 2022
A study has been made of the spray regime of sieve plate operation, and the transition to the froth regime. A simple fluidisation model for spray gives a simple criterion for the transition. The upper limits of spray operation are set by conĀ sidering drop terminal velocities and limiting diameter - velocity relationships for stability.

Stability of a Submerged Jet

The Physics of Fluids, 1970
A new method is presented of investigating the stability of a submerged jet. It is shown that steady perturbation appears for a certain value of total momentum flux of the jet.

On submerged jets

Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1986
A non-similarity, axisymmetric, and in general twisted jet of incompressible fluid, flowing from a spherical source into a submerged space, is considered. It is shown that the solution of this problem is not expressible by a series of integral inverse powers of the spherical radius R, but has an essentially singular point at \(R=\infty\). The principal

Cavitation of a submerged jet

Experiments in Fluids, 2013
A cavitation cloud forms when a high-pressure water jet is submerged in a tank of quiescent water. The water jet is formed as high-pressure nitrogen forces a fixed-volume column of water through a nozzle. The diameter and exit velocity of the water jet affect the behavior and geometry of the resulting cavitation.

Diffusion of Submerged Jets

Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1950
As the direct result of turbulence generated at the borders of a submerged jet, the fluid within the jet will undergo both lateral diffusion and deceleration, and at the same time fluid from the su...

Forces from Submerged Jets

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1970
Measurements were made of the force produced by a submerged jet, which impinged upon a circular disk. The force was found to depend upon the diameters of the disk and the jet nozzle, the momentum flux of the jet and the position of the disk in the incident flow field.
