ABSTRACTThis article studied the effect of submergence percentage of the T-shaped spur dike on scour and flow pattern in a 90° bend. Three submergence percentages of 0, 15 and 25 were considered. The three-dimensional flow velocities were invoked using SSIIM software.

Backwater Prediction due to the Blockage Caused by a Single, Submerged Spur Dike in an Open Channel
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2008A method is proposed for predicting the backwater effect due to a single, submerged spur dike located within an open channel flow. A theoretical analysis based on the momentum principle relates the backwater effect to the drag force exerted by the spur dike on the flow.

Submerged spur dikes are widely applied in the channel regulation structures of plain sand-bed rivers such as the lower reaches of the Yangtze River; thus, the issue of local scour protection near regulating structures is especially important for ...

ABSTRACT The construction of spur dike groups exerts a profound impact on rivers. To thoroughly explore the cumulative effects of spur dike groups on river systems, this study builds on the previous research results regarding the classification criteria for the impact scales of non‐submerged double spur dikes and employs the numerical

Scour around Submerged Spur Dikes with Flexible Mattress Protection
Flume experiments examining the effects of a flexible mattress on bed scour around spur dikes were conducted. Results showed that scour induced subsidence damage to the flexible mattress.

Physics of Fluids
Spur dikes, designed for river flow diversion, alter flow dynamics by creating low-velocity dead zone storages that influence the longitudinal dispersion of contaminants. Seasonal variations in flow depth also modify flow patterns and mass transport around the spur dike. This study investigates three-dimensional (3D) flow and mass transport near a spur

The scouring of piles, piers, pipelines and spur dike under the action of current and wave is a very important problem in coastal engineering. In this paper, we present physical modeling results in a 50 m long and 15 m wide basin with a submerged spur dike and sandy seabed.
