A Novel Phase-Locked Loop for Mitigating the Subsequent Commutation Failures of LCC-HVDC Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2021The AC fault ride-through and support capability of line commutated converter based high voltage direct current (LCC-HVDC) have significant influence on the safe operation of power system. The ability of phase locked loop (PLL) to synchronize with the voltage phase under AC faults would affect the recovery performance of LCC-HVDC systems.

Commutation failure (CF) is one of the most common faults in traditional HVDC system. Effective prediction of CF is beneficial to the safety and stability of the power system. The physical-driven prediction method can effectively reflect the causal law but it is difficult to establish a precise model.

This paper presents the essential reason for subsequent commutation failures (SCFs) in high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, and accordingly proposes a novel adaptive extinction angle recovery (AEAR) control strategy to prevent SCFs. Firstly, based on the changes of the inverter control mode after the first CF, the interaction process of inverter
