Spatiotemporal patterns of elephant and chimpanzee occurrence amid hunting in an unprotected African rainforest

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
We used long‐term data (2008–2023) from an unprotected African rainforest facing hunting pressure and impending logging to model how Nigeria‐Cameroon chimpanzees and African forest elephants respond to hunting. We found that elephant occurrence declined with increasing terrain ruggedness and was not affected by hunting.

Movement and Survival of Spodoptera litura (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Neonate Larvae on Cotton Expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Proteins

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Spodoptera litura neonates showed increased movement on Bt‐expressing Bollgard 3 (BG) cotton leaf discs but did not initially avoid it. Survival was higher when larvae could move from BG3 to non‐Bt leaf discs. On whole plants, more larvae dispersed from hatching on BG3 cotton compared to non‐Bt cotton. These findings suggest the larval movement differs

The Appreciation Game. A Monist Ontology of Works of Art

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Philosophy, EarlyView.
Abstract A pluralist ontology of art states that works of art can belong to distinct ontological categories whereas a monist ontology states that all works of art belong to one ontological category. A monist ontology would be preferable since it is more informative about the nature of art, and may pave the way for a definition of art.
