Rapid shifts in bryophyte phenology revealed by airborne eDNA

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, EarlyView.
We report on multi‐decadal shifts in the phenology of spore dispersal in 16 bryophyte taxa using a unique 35‐year time series of eDNA (environmental DNA) data collected in northern Sweden. These phenological shifts suggest strong perturbations in bryophyte phenology, consistent with ongoing climate change.

Differential gene expression in Chorthippus parallelus (Zetterstedt, 1821) (Orthoptera: Acrididae: Gomphocerinae) induced by Wolbachia infection

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Distinct lineages of the grasshopper Chorthippus parallelus (Orthoptera: Acrididae) form a well‐known hybrid zone (HZ) in the Pyrenees mountain range; the Iberian endemism C. p. erythropus (Cpe) and the subspecies C. p. parallelus, (Cpp) widely distributed throughout the rest of Europe. Both subspecies differ in diverse traits, including the strains of

Ecophysiology of an Avian Invader: Body Condition and Metabolic Rate Adjustments to Ambient Temperature

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This study examines the ecophysiological responses of common waxbills to temperature variation in Portugal. We measured body condition and basal metabolic rate (BMR) during summer and winter across two regions in Portugal. Body condition was negatively correlated with temperature, while the relationship between BMR and temperature varied seasonally. In
