Study on the Coupled Effects of High‐Speed Airflow and Charged Sand on Power‐Frequency Discharge Characteristics of Conductor–Tower Gaps in Strong Wind–Sand Environments

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Strong wind–sand weather in Xinjiang threatens power grid safety by increasing transmission line tripping risks. Existing studies focus on sand polarization but neglect the coupled influence of high‐speed airflow and charged sand on gap discharge characteristics.

An Investigation into Substation Grounding and Its Implementation on Gaza Substation

open access: yesEnergy and Power Engineering, 2011
An investigation into the optimal design of a substation grounding system for the transmission substation in Gaza City, Palestine has been carried out. A research into the most influential parameters on the effectiveness of the substation grid system has been performed and its results have been incorporated into the Gaza case study.

Experimental Study on Disintegration Characteristics of Water Droplets in Icicle‐Flat Plate Gap Beyond Critical Discharge Voltage

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The disintegration behaviour of ice‐melting droplets aggravates the discharge risk of ice‐covered insulators and the disintegration characteristics of droplets at applied voltages exceeding the critical discharge voltage lack in‐depth study.

Techno-economic evaluation of power electronics-assisted transmission system frequency regulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
In many future power systems, the power generation may be predominantly supplied from converter interfaced sources (i.e. wind, solar, HVDC interconnection).

Wave‐Velocity‐Based Temperature Monitoring Applied to Underground Power Cables in Medium‐Voltage Networks—Discrimination of Individual Cable Temperatures in a Distribution Grid

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The thermal state of underground power cables can be monitored based on the temperature dependency of the dielectric permittivity of the insulation material. The resulting temperature‐dependent wave velocity is used as a thermometric property. To this end, the signal propagation time along a cable of an injected signal is determined.

An Overview of High‐Temperature Superconducting Cables in DC Systems: Unlocking Potential for High‐Voltage DC Networks

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper provides an overview of high‐temperature superconducting (HTS) cables in DC systems, with a focus on their deployment in high‐voltage DC (HVDC) networks. The assessment of HTS cable properties—such as extremely low electrical resistance, high current‐carrying capacity and a compact geometry—and their comparison with those of ...

Research into action of surface soil moistening, drying or freezing on electrical characteristics of grounding device

open access: yesElectrical engineering & Electromechanics, 2014
The analysis made has shown expediency of modernization rather than reconstruction of earth electrodes, after inspection of long operating substations grounding grids, via building a two-level structure.

Temperature Extraction Scheme for Composite Insulator Core Rod Sheath of Overhead Transmission Lines Based on Oriented Bounding Boxes

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) inspection of overhead transmission line composite insulators allows for the rapid acquisition of large amounts of infrared images of insulators in service, which can be used to analyse their operational status. However, efficiently and accurately analysing these images remains a challenge.

PowerGPT‐R1: Vision‐Language Reinforcement Fine‐Tuning With Verifiable Reward for Power Inspection

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Vision‐driven intelligent power inspection systems have long faced the challenge of scarce high‐quality datasets in specialised domains, leading to limited performance of traditional deep learning methods (e.g., Faster‐RCNN) in few‐shot learning scenarios. Recent breakthroughs in language models, particularly the open‐source DeepSeek‐R1 model,
