Currency Substitution, portfolio Diversification and Money Demand [PDF]

open access: yes
We extend the Thomas (1985) dynamic optimissing model of money demand and currency substitution to the case in which the individual has no access to bonds denominated in foreign currency.

Un problème d’obsolescence : la substitution de tubes fluorescents sur deux œuvres lumino-cinétiques de Nino Calos

open access: yesCeROArt : Conservation, Exposition, Restauration d'Objets d'Art
This article retraces the questions asked of a restorer given the task of treating an obsolescent lighting system during the restoration of two Mobiles lumineux (Luminous Modules) by Nino Calos (1926-1990) in the collection of the Musée d’Art Moderne de ...

Kinetics and Mechanism of the Substitution of Ligand (Urea) of [Ti(ur)6]3+ by H2O and SCN¯ in Ethanol Solution [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 1987
The kinetics of substitution of [Ti(ur)6]3+ by H2O and SCN¯ ion in ethanol solution have been measured spectrophotometrically by stopped-flow method. Water is a good nucleophile toward Ti(III) substrates.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Numerical Study on a Diesel/Dissociated Methanol Gas Compression Ignition Engine with Exhaust Gas Recirculation

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
Hydrogen is the most promising alternative fuel in the field of engines. Exhaust heat-assisted methanol dissociation is an attractive approach for generating hydrogen.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Currency substitution in the transition economy: a case of the Czech Republic 1993-2001 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Currency substitution appears to be an important issue affecting the design of monetary policy, especially in transition economies. Therefore, this paper strives to analyze the particular relevance of a currency substitution phenomenon for the Czech ...

Informational Substitutes [PDF]

open access: yes2016 IEEE 57th Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science (FOCS), 2016
We propose definitions of substitutes and complements for pieces of information ("signals") in the context of a decision or optimization problem, with game-theoretic and algorithmic applications. In a game-theoretic context, substitutes capture diminishing marginal value of information to a rational decision maker. We use the definitions to address the
