Substrate Cleaning for Integrated Optical Waveguides

Applied Optics, 1973
Losses in integrated optical waveguides depend upon the homogeneity of the guiding layer. Successful production of acceptable guides by sputtering or solution deposition depends critically on the methods used to clean the substrate. Cleaning methods that produce films adequate for ordinary coatings have proved inadequate for integrated optical films ...

Millimeter-wave substrate integrated waveguide filters

CCECE 2003 - Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering. Toward a Caring and Humane Technology (Cat. No.03CH37436), 2004
This paper presents the design and performance of millimeter waves filter realized with the SIW technology. Using the SIW, low-cost filter can be manufactured at millimeter-wave without tuning. A design methodology for Butterworth or Chebychev prototype is presented. Also a dual-mode filter is presented to improve the out of band rejection.

Composite right/left-handed substrate integrated waveguide and half-mode substrate integrated waveguide

2009 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2009
Composite right/left-handed (CRLH) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and half mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) are investigated and presented in this paper. By introducing series interdigital capacitors, which are realized by etching slots on the waveguide surface, both balanced and unbalanced CRLH waveguide transmission lines (TLs) are ...

Crosstalk in Substrate Integrated Waveguides

IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2015
Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) represents an emerging technology for the implementation of waveguide components in planar form, in the frequency range of microwaves and mm-waves. While the SIW is similar to a classical metallic waveguide, the structure is not completely shielded and may be subject to a radiation leakage.

Substrate Integrated Waveguides with Moats

Journal of Electromagnetic Waves and Applications, 2009
A substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) equipped with moats is investigated in this paper. Different from the commonly used SIW having dense via holes, this new SIW employed sparse via holes incorporating moats outside the via-hole arrays. Through numerous experimental studies, we found that it can maintain high transmission characteristics by ...

Narrowband Substrate Integrated Waveguide Isolators

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2014
In this letter, two types of X-band ferrite-loaded isolators are proposed based on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. First, a full-height E-plane ferrite slab is used to construct low-loss and high-isolation SIW isolators. The insertion loss is less than 2.2 dB and the isolation coefficient is larger than 30 dB within 400 MHz ...

Substrate integrated waveguide phase shifter

2011 International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Control (ICECC), 2011
An analogue variable phase shifter on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technique operating at 26 GHz is proposed which employs varactor diodes, properly coupled to the SIW coupler to achieve a continuous electronic control of the phase shift. A vertical transition between 50 Ohm SMA and SIW is used for direct coupling.

Substrate integrated nonradiative dielectric waveguide

IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2004
A new substrate integrated circuits (SICs) fabrication technique is proposed for realizing nonradiative dielectric (NRD) waveguide circuits. This new technique called substrate integrated NRD (SINRD) guide allows the NRD guide be integrated within a dielectric substrate by drilling a pattern of air holes.

Analysis of Substrate Integrated Waveguides

2022
By using a transverse resonance technique, the frequency characteristics of slotted substrate integrated waveguides (SSIWs), slotted half mode substrate integrated waveguides (slotted HMSIWs) and slotted parallel plate SIWs loaded with capacitances and inductances are analyzed theoretically and related to those of conventional waveguides.

60GHz Substrate Integrated Waveguide Balun

2019 IEEE Conference on Antenna Measurements & Applications (CAMA), 2019
In this paper, we design a balun that operates at 60GHz. The proposed balun is based on a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure that can reduce losses in high frequency bands. A single-ended signal is divided by 3-dB power divider, and then differential signals are generated by inverting the phase. In simulation, the amplitudes of differential
