Decay stages of Jurassic wood debris from Scotland: evidence for the coevolution of fungal rot, arthropods and the nurse log strategy

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 3, Page 1557-1571, November 2025.
Summary A key feature of extant conifer forests is the high percentage of seeds that germinate and establish on dead wood; in some forests, this can exceed 90%. This deadwood can act as an ideal nursery for young tree species, leading to this type of seedbed being termed ‘nurse logs’.

Typification and current status of the Turkish taxa described by Hanna Czeczott

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 74, Issue 5, Page 1248-1261, October 2025.
Abstract Hanna Czeczott's 1925 expeditions to northern Turkey resulted in the description of 22 new taxa. Our study revisits them using Czeczott's original publications and herbarium collections. Of the 22 taxa described, we located all or parts of the original material for 21, designate 13 lectotypes (including one second‐step) and confirm 7 holotypes,

Range‐wide intraspecific variation reflects past adaptation to climate in a gypsophile Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 7, Page 1533-1549, July 2024.
Despite strong specialization to gypsum soils, past divergent selection related to climatic gradients has driven adaptive population differentiation in Lepidium subulatum. All populations showed high but similar plasticity to drought, indicating that selection did not act against plasticity in harsh environmental conditions.
