Cable-driven ankle exoskeletons are primarily designed to assist plantarflexion, but their actuation cables also span the subtalar joint, potentially producing unintended inversion–eversion torques.

Growing together: Developmental integration and modularity in the human talus–calcaneus complex
This study investigates morphological integration and trabecular bone development in the human talus–calcaneus complex during postnatal ontogeny. The two bones exhibit strong integration throughout development, with differing bone volume fraction trajectories presumably reflecting their distinct functional roles during bipedal gait acquisition ...

ANALYSIS OF COMPLICATIONS AFTER SUBTALAR ARTROEREISIS IN PATIENTS WITH PLANOVALGUS DEFORMITY
The results of observation of 9 patients after subtalar arthroereisis with developed different complications from 2008 to 2011 were presented. In 7 patients subtalar arthroereisis was held in conjunction with surgical correction of forefoot, in 2 ...

The impact of footwear on human talar trabecular architecture
Medial and lateral views of the human foot skeleton in the shod and unshod groups, with color maps representing mean relative trabecular bone volume fraction (rBV/TV) in the talus for each group. The shod group exhibited greater rBV/TV in the medial and posterior talus, whereas the unshod group had greater rBV/TV in the talar head and neck.

Subtalar Joint Biomechanics [PDF]
Subtalar joint movement is transmitted proximally to the lower extremity and distally to the forefoot during gait. Thus, the entire lower kinetic chain is influenced by abnormal subtalar joint biomechanics.

Isolated subtalar arthrodesis after fractures of the calcaneus [PDF]
BackgroundInvolvement of the subtalar joint in fracture calcaneus may give rise to chronic pain and permanent functional impairment. This can be produced by subtalar incongruity with calcaneofibular abutment and/or impingement of the tendon, nerve, or ...

Functional morphology of trabecular bone in the calcaneus of African apes
Pan exhibits significantly higher calcaneal tuberosity trabecular thickness (Tb.Th) and bone volume fraction (BV/TV) than Gorilla, potentially reflecting higher triceps surae forces for vertical climbing. Both taxa have significantly higher Tb.Th and BV/TV in the anterior calcaneus; the difference is exaggerated in Gorilla, potentially reflecting ...

ABSTRACT Background Lateral wedge insoles (LWIs) are a non‐surgical adjunct treatment for knee osteoarthritis (OA) that has been shown to reduce the knee adduction moment—a biomechanical risk factor for knee OA disease progression. Though worn in one's shoes, little is known of the effects of LWIs use on the foot or ankle.

Flat foot is a common pediatric foot deformity which involves subtalar flexibility; it can affect the plantar arch. This study analyzes the evolution of two parameters, i.e., plantar index arch and subtalar flexibility, before and after physiotherapy and

ABSTRACT Introduction Up to one in two individuals who have a history of an ankle injury will develop chronic ankle instability, which subsequently increases the risk of osteoarthritis development. Although lateral ankle ligament injuries are the most common, recent research shows that concomitant injuries to the deltoid (medial collateral) ligament ...
