Subtalar Joint Arthrodesis

Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, 2012
Isolated subtalar joint arthrodesis has gained popularity more recently. Research has shown that it preserves rearfoot motion, does not increase the risk of arthritis in adjacent joints, and is not an especially complex operative procedure. It decreases the chance of midtarsal joint nonunion and malunion postoperatively.

Anatomy of the Subtalar Joint

Foot and Ankle Clinics, 2018
The subtalar joint is divided into the talocalcaneonavicular and the talocalcaneal joint, separated by a conical interosseous tunnel (canalis and sinus tarsi). The talocalcaneonavicular joint is a ball-and-socket articulation (coxa pedis). An important part of the coxa pedis is the spring ligament.
