A new sky subtraction technique for low surface brightness data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
We present a new approach to the sky subtraction for long-slit spectra suitable for low-surface brightness objects based on the controlled reconstruction of the night sky spectrum in the Fourier space using twilight or arc-line frames as references. It can be easily adopted for FLAMINGOS-type multi-slit data.

Impact of acceleration treatment on treatment plan and delivery qualities in tomotherapy for lung cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Acceleration treatment (AT) is a novel treatment planning parameter introduced in the tomotherapy‐dedicated treatment planning system, Precision. This study explores the effects of AT on tomotherapy plans using helical (TomoHelical) and direct (TomoDirect) irradiation techniques.

Study of stop and sbottom at LHC

open access: yes, 2003
In supersymmetric models a gluino can decay into $tb\tilde{\chi}^{\pm}_1$ through a stop or a sbottom. The decay chain produces an edge structure in the $m_{tb}$ distribution.

Lumbar pedicle subtraction osteotomy: techniques and outcomes

open access: yesNorth American Spine Society Journal (NASSJ)
Pedicle subtraction osteotomy has been thoroughly described and studied over the past 2 decades, being applied mainly in the lumbar spine, followed by the thoracic spine. Our better understanding of alignment biomechanics, and the progressive refinements of the surgical technique over time made it a very efficient procedure for the management of fixed ...

Bone‐wise rigid registration of femur, tibia, and fibula for the tracking of temporal changes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Multiple myeloma (MM) induces temporal alterations in bone structure, such as osteolytic bone lesions, which are challenging to identify through manual image interpretation. The large variation in radiologists' assessments, even at expert centers, further complicates diagnosis.

IR subtraction schemes: integrating the counterterms at NNLO in QCD [PDF]

open access: yesPoS ACAT2010:080,2010, 2010
We briefly review a subtraction scheme for computing radiative corrections to QCD jet cross sections that can be defined at any order in perturbation theory. Hereafter we discuss the computational methods used to evaluate analytically and numerically the integrated counterterms arising from such a subtraction scheme.

Exploring surface‐guided systems for intelligent breathing‐adapted four‐dimensional computed tomography: A comparison to infrared‐based reflective marker systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the technical feasibility of adapting a surface monitoring system, designed for conventional four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT), to an intelligent, breathing‐adapted 4DCT and examines its potential to expand the currently limited range of supported surrogate systems.

Simple and Robust Boolean Operations for Triangulated Surfaces

open access: yes, 2013
Boolean operations of geometric models is an essential issue in computational geometry. In this paper, we develop a simple and robust approach to perform Boolean operations on closed and open triangulated surfaces.

Stereotactic radiosurgery for multiple small brain metastases using gamma knife versus single‐isocenter VMAT: Normal brain dose based on lesion number and size

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The study evaluates rapid linear accelerator (Linac) single isocenter stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with Hyperarc for large target numbers. We compared to Gamma Knife (GK), which suffers from long treatment times and investigated causes of differences. Methods Linac SRS and GK treatment plans for patients receiving 18 Gy to the gross
