Titanium Elastic Nailing versus Locking Compression Plating in Pediatric Subtrochanteric Femoral Fractures [PDF]

open access: yesAl-Azhar International Medical Journal
Background: Subtrochanteric femoral fractures in kids are infrequent and challenging due to anatomical and biomechanical factors. Aim: To compare the Titanium elastic nailing (TENs) and locking compression plating in pediatric subtrochanteric femoral ...

Comparison and analysis of reoperations in two different treatment protocols for trochanteric hip fractures – postoperative technical complications with dynamic hip screw, intramedullary nail and Medoff sliding plate

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2017
Background In treatment of unstable trochanteric fractures dynamic hip screw and Medoff sliding plate devices are designed to allow secondary fracture impaction, whereas intramedullary nails aim to maintain fracture alignment.

Bilateral atypical femoral fractures treated with compression hip screw and intramedullary nail fixation

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports, 2022
Atypical femoral fractures (AFF) are more difficult to treat than typical femoral fractures; they require strong fixation and good reduction. Intramedullary (IM) nailing is the first option for the treatment of complete AFF; however, there are few ...

Pericapsular nerve group block with phenol for non‐operative hip fracture management in patients living with frailty: a prospective multicentre cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction The incidence of hip fractures is rising with the ageing population. For patients living with severe frailty and limited life expectancy, non‐operative management is increasingly considered after shared decision‐making. Given the limited availability of long‐term analgesic options, alternative techniques are needed.

Bisphosphonate-related bilateral atypical femoral fractures : be aware and beware [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Although bisphosphonates have a well established therapeutic role in the prevention of osteoporosis-related fractures, several reports published over the past 5-6 years suggest a possible causative relationship between long-term use of bisphosphonates ...

Treatment of subtrochanteric fracture femur by open reduction and internal fixation by long proximal femoral nailing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Subtrochanteric fractures are devasting injuries that most commonly affect the elderly population and also in young. Methods: This is a prospective study of 20 cases of subtrochanteric fracture admitted to KIMS, Huballi between November 2008 ...

Subtrochanteric femoral fractures and intramedullary nailing complications: a comparison of two implants

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2022
Introduction Intramedullary (IM) nails are considered the ‘gold’ standard treatment for subtrochanteric femoral fractures. The incidence and risk factors for re-operation in subtrochanteric fractures remain unclear.

Rare Novel Genetic Variants of the OFD1 Gene Associated With a Familial Form and a Sporadic Case of Long Bone Atypical Fractures

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
A novel rare variant of the OFD1 gene was identified in a family with dental hypoplasia, facial hypoplasia, and adult‐onset multiple atypical fractures of long bones. Another variant of the OFD1 gene was found in a woman with bisphosphonate‐associated atypical femur fracture.

Postoperative Sleep Disturbance and Functional Recovery Following Hip Fracture Surgery: A 13‐Month Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Postoperative sleep disturbance is common after hip fracture surgery and gradually improves over 13 months. Better sleep quality is independently associated with improved functional recovery, highlighting sleep as a modifiable target for postoperative rehabilitation.

Oral Bisphosphonates and Risk of Subtrochanteric or Diaphyseal Femur Fractures in a Population-Based Cohort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Bisphosphonates are the primary therapy for postmenopausal and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis. Case series suggest a potential link between prolonged use of bisphosphonates and low-energy fracture of subtrochanteric or diaphyseal femur as a ...
