Subtrochanteric femur fractures

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2004
Subtrochanteric femur fractures have demanded special consideration in orthopaedic traumatology, given the high rate of complications associated with their management. The intense concentration of compression, tensile, and torsional stresses and decreased vascularity of the region has challenged orthopaedists with problems of malunion, delayed union ...

Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur

Injury, 1997
A consecutive series of 103 patients with a subtrochanteric fracture were prospectively studied. Ten patients were treated non-operatively, whilst the other 93 had operative treatment. The overall fixation failure rate was 12 per cent with a re-operation rate of 6 per cent by 1 year. There were six (8 per cent) failures of fixation for the 74 fractures

Subtrochanteric missile fractures of the femur

Injury, 1998
The treatment results of subtrochanteric missile fractures of the femur in 41 casualties are analyzed. The wounds were inflicted by infantry weapon missiles in 29 (70.7%) and by fragments of mine or explosive devices in 12 (29.3%) casualties. The associated neurovascular bundle injuries were present in 11 (26.8%) patients.

Subtrochanteric Fractures of the Femur in Children

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1975
Subtrochanteric fractures are relatively rare in children and usually result from severe trauma. The unique biomechnical forces about the hip following fracture tend to complicate treatment. Remodeling and growth stimulation generally ensure good results by nonoperative means in children under 10 years of age.

Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur.

The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1978
The results of treatment of fifty-six patients with subtrochanteric fractures of the femur are presented and a new classification of these fractures is described. In forty-seven fractures treated with internal fixation there were nine failures of fixation.

Subtrochanteric Fractures of the Femur

Archives of Surgery, 1975
Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur comprise only 5% to 7% of hip fractures, but are important because of the difficulty in management. They combine the problem of instability to varus deformation common to comminuted intertrochanteric fractures and the problem of delayed union common to diaphysial fractures of the femur.

Subtrochanteric Fractures of the Femur

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989
The results were retrospectively analyzed of 47 subtrochanteric fractures of the femur treated with a 95° condylar blade-plate to establish whether two different surgical techniques yielded different results.

Subtrochanteric Femoral Fractures

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2002
Fractures in the subtrochanteric zone of the proximal femur present complex treatment challenges. These treatment difficulties are related to the anatomic and biomechanic features that are unique to this area. These fractures occur in older patients from low-energy trauma and in younger patients with high-energy trauma, with separate diagnostic and ...
