Subtrochanteric Fractures

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1990
In a retrospective review of 107 patients treated during an eight-year period for subtrochanteric fractures, the average follow-up period was 25.5 months (range, six to 96 months). Comparisons of fracture patterns, fixation devices, and complications of osteosynthesis were made in an attempt to identify fixation devices that are best suited for the ...

Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur

Injury, 1997
A consecutive series of 103 patients with a subtrochanteric fracture were prospectively studied. Ten patients were treated non-operatively, whilst the other 93 had operative treatment. The overall fixation failure rate was 12 per cent with a re-operation rate of 6 per cent by 1 year. There were six (8 per cent) failures of fixation for the 74 fractures

Subtrochanteric femur fractures

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2004
Subtrochanteric femur fractures have demanded special consideration in orthopaedic traumatology, given the high rate of complications associated with their management. The intense concentration of compression, tensile, and torsional stresses and decreased vascularity of the region has challenged orthopaedists with problems of malunion, delayed union ...

[Subtrochanteric fractures].

Der Unfallchirurg, 2022
Subtrochanteric fractures represent a distinct entity. They are different from proximal femoral fractures as well as femoral shaft fractures. Nowadays, these fractures are mainly found in the geriatric population. Fractures in younger patients are indicative of high-energy trauma.

Subtrochanteric Femoral Fractures

Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2007
Subtrochanteric femoral fractures are complicated injuries that may be associated with other life-threatening conditions. Patients should be carefully evaluated and appropriately treated for hypovolemic shock. These fractures can be effectively stabilized with 95 degrees plates, femoral reconstruction nails, or trochanteric femoral nails with ...

Subtrochanteric Fractures of the Femur

Archives of Surgery, 1975
Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur comprise only 5% to 7% of hip fractures, but are important because of the difficulty in management. They combine the problem of instability to varus deformation common to comminuted intertrochanteric fractures and the problem of delayed union common to diaphysial fractures of the femur.

Subtrochanteric Femoral Fractures

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2002
Fractures in the subtrochanteric zone of the proximal femur present complex treatment challenges. These treatment difficulties are related to the anatomic and biomechanic features that are unique to this area. These fractures occur in older patients from low-energy trauma and in younger patients with high-energy trauma, with separate diagnostic and ...
