Is Dynamic Condylar Screw Better Than (95°) Blade Plate in Management of Subtrochanteric Fracture of Femur?

open access: yesThe Iraqi Journal of Medical Sciences, 2020
Background: Subtrochanteric fractures account for approximately 10-30% of all hip fractures, affecting persons of all ages and should be internally fixed to reduce the morbidity and mortality by early rehabilitation and mobilization.

Pericapsular nerve group block with phenol for non‐operative hip fracture management in patients living with frailty: a prospective multicentre cohort study

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction The incidence of hip fractures is rising with the ageing population. For patients living with severe frailty and limited life expectancy, non‐operative management is increasingly considered after shared decision‐making. Given the limited availability of long‐term analgesic options, alternative techniques are needed.

Bisphosphonate-related bilateral atypical femoral fractures : be aware and beware [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Although bisphosphonates have a well established therapeutic role in the prevention of osteoporosis-related fractures, several reports published over the past 5-6 years suggest a possible causative relationship between long-term use of bisphosphonates ...

Management of Long, Comminuted Pediatric Subtrochanteric Fractures Using PHILOS (Proximal Humeral Internal Locked System)

open access: yesPhilippine Journal of Orthopaedics
Subtrochanteric fractures in the pediatric population are rare, and there are currently no existing management guidelines. In this innately unstable fracture type, intramedullary devices preferred for adults cannot be used in children with open growth ...

Rare Novel Genetic Variants of the OFD1 Gene Associated With a Familial Form and a Sporadic Case of Long Bone Atypical Fractures

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
A novel rare variant of the OFD1 gene was identified in a family with dental hypoplasia, facial hypoplasia, and adult‐onset multiple atypical fractures of long bones. Another variant of the OFD1 gene was found in a woman with bisphosphonate‐associated atypical femur fracture.

Comminuted Proximal Pediatric Femur Fractures Treated with External Fixation: A Case Series and Literature Review

open access: yesJournal of Limb Lengthening & Reconstruction
Background: Pediatric femur fractures occur at an annual rate of 19–26 per 100,000 children, but subtrochanteric fractures remain relatively rare. The infrequency of these fractures in skeletally immature patients contributes to a lack of consensus on ...

Results of proximal femoral nailing in subtrochanteric fracture of femur in adults

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Diseases and Traumatology, 2022
Introduction: Subtrochanteric fractures occur in a zone extending from the lesser trochanter to 5 cm distal to the lesser trochanter, however, extension into the intertrochanteric region is common.

Postoperative Sleep Disturbance and Functional Recovery Following Hip Fracture Surgery: A 13‐Month Prospective Longitudinal Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Postoperative sleep disturbance is common after hip fracture surgery and gradually improves over 13 months. Better sleep quality is independently associated with improved functional recovery, highlighting sleep as a modifiable target for postoperative rehabilitation.

Predicting Hospital Length of Stay in Orthopedic Trauma Patients Using Fracture‐Specific Machine Learning Models: A Multicenter Retrospective Prediction‐Modeling Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Hospital length of stay (LOS) is a key indicator for resource allocation, bed management, and discharge planning in orthopedic trauma care. Given the substantial heterogeneity of LOS across fracture types and the limitations of conventional approaches, this study aimed to develop and validate fracture‐specific machine ...
