Disentangling the Key Drivers of Ecosystem Water-Use Efficiency in China’s Subtropical Forests Using an Improved Remote-Sensing-Driven Analytical Model

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The subtropical forests in China play a pivotal part in the global and regional carbon–water cycle and in regulating the climate. Ecosystem water-use efficiency (WUE) is a crucial index for understanding the trade-off between ecosystem carbon gain and ...

Adaptive Genomic Divergence Across Altitudes in Capsella bursa‐pastoris

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Genomic divergence was observed between high‐altitude and low‐altitude populations of Capsella bursa‐pastoris in China, consistent with an important role of ecological factors. Candidate adaptive loci associated with enhanced energy metabolism, photoprotection, and growth plasticity under altitudinal stress were identified.

Lowland-ecotype switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) with moderate nitrogen enhances long-term productivity and ecosystem multifunctionality in acidic soils: A six-year field experiment

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is a promising bioenergy crop owing to high biomass production and ecological adaptability, but long-term evaluations of different ecotypes and nitrogen (N) rates on productivity and soil ecosystem functions are limited.

Contrasting taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity responses to forest modifications: comparisons of taxa and successive plant life stages in South African scarp forest.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
The degradation of natural forests to modified forests threatens subtropical and tropical biodiversity worldwide. Yet, species responses to forest modification vary considerably.

Root nutrient capture and leaf resorption efficiency modulated by different influential factors jointly alleviated P limitation in Quercus acutissima across the North–South Transect of Eastern China

open access: yesForestry Research, 2022
Soil and climatic conditions are known to have close associations with plant morphological and stoichiometric traits at a regional scale along latitudinal gradients; however, how latitude drives biotic and abiotic factors affecting plant nutrient ...

Impacts of tropical cyclones on hydrochemistry of a subtropical forest [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2013
Abstract. Tropical cyclones (typhoons/hurricanes) have major impacts on the biogeochemistry of forest ecosystems, but the stochastic nature and the long intervals between storms means that there are limited data on their effects. We characterised the impacts of 14 typhoons over six years on hydrochemistry of a subtropical forest plantation in Taiwan, a

Water-Soluble Inorganic Ions in Fine Particulate Emission During Forest Fires in Chinese Boreal and Subtropical Forests: An Indoor Experiment

open access: yes, 2019
Understanding of the characteristics of water-soluble inorganic ions (WSI) in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) emitted during forest fires has paramount importance due to their potential effect on ecosystem acidification.

Density Estimates of Endangered Endemic Rodents Suggest Broader Impacts of Invasive Burmese Pythons Following a Category 4 Hurricane in the Florida Keys

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Density estimates of two endangered rodent subspecies, endemic to Key Largo, Florida, USA. These findings illustrate the contrasting dynamics of two native species associated with the prevalence of invasive Burmese pythons and global change. The woodrats' decline emphasizes its potential risk of extinction as global change continues to impact island ...
