Where are the Subtropics? [PDF]

open access: possibleBiotropica, 2013
AbstractThe tropics are clearly defined while ‘subtropics’ and ‘subtropical’ have been applied to a variety of zones, climates, and ecosystems. However, in the recent terrestrial biology literature, they have been used mainly for the zones between the tropics (±23.4oC) and ±30.0o. Adopting this standard would facilitate pan‐subtropical comparisons.

Current state of Fusarium wilt of banana in the subtropics

, 2020
Subtropically grown bananas have different interactions with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc), causal agent of Fusarium wilt of banana (FWB), when compared with those grown in the tropics. The designation ‘subtropical’ race 4 (SR4) was assigned to

CHERRY GROWING IN THE SUBTROPICS

Acta Horticulturae, 1997
Recently, cherries are tended to be grown under subtropical conditions. This experiment is carried out in Adana to see the performances of sweet and sour cherries in mild climates and to see the effects of chemical applications on breaking dormancy of the buds.

On the recirculation of the subtropical gyre

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 1988
AbstractA hydrographic section through the Gulf Stream and its recirculation to the south is interpreted in terms of an analytical model based on the baroclinic Fofonoff gyre, in which layers shielded from forcing are homogenized to a uniform value of potential vorticity. Given this simple paradigm of the circulation, the process of anticyclogenesis is

Numerical study of the Subtropical Front and the Subtropical Countercurrent

Journal of the Oceanographical Society of Japan, 1984
Using a multi-level numerical model, it is shown that the Subtropical Front and the Subtropical Countercurrent can be reproduced realistically in a highly idealized model, as a consequence of the coupling effect of wind driven gyre circulation and differential heating.
