The Mechanical Impact of the Tibetan Plateau on the Seasonal Evolution of the South Asian Monsoon [PDF]
The impact of the Tibetan Plateau on the South Asian monsoon is examined using a hierarchy of atmospheric general circulation models. During the premonsoon season and monsoon onset (April–June), when westerly winds over the Southern Tibetan Plateau are ...

The subtropical Deacon cells [PDF]
Abstract. The circulation of the subtropical gyres can be decomposed into a horizontal recirculation along contours of constant Bernoulli potential and an overturning circulation across these contours. While the geometry and topology of Bernoulli contours is more complicated in the subtropical gyres than in the Southern Ocean, these subtropical ...

Osteomalacia in subtropical Auckland
A 56-year-old man was referred with left-sided hip pain. MRI scans demonstrated an undisplaced stress fracture in the femoral neck and subchondral oedema within the femoral head. Bone densitometry showed T-scores of −2.0 at the spine, −3.5 at the femoral neck and −2.4 for the total hip. Laboratory tests revealed 25-hydroxyvitamin D <10 nmol/L.

Evaluating Precipitation Features and Rainfall Characteristics in a Multi-scale Modeling Framework [PDF]
Cloud and precipitation systems over the tropics and subtropics are simulated with a multi-scale modeling framework (MMF) and compared against the TRMM radar precipitation features (RPFs) product.

Dynamic Amplification of Subtropical Extreme Precipitation in a Warming Climate
Projected precipitation changes in a warming climate vary considerably, spatially, and between intensities. The changes can be greater or less than the ∼7% K−1 Clausius‐Clapeyron (CC) prediction, owing to dynamic effects.

Understanding the Structure of the Subtropical Thermocline [PDF]
Closing a gyre with a western boundary current imposes a constraint on its vertical structure that requires there to be no net vertical flux of potential vorticity through any closed pressure contour in steady state. This constraint resembles the traditional similarity balance for the internal thermocline, with additional terms representing friction in

Atmospheric temperature responses to solar irradiance and geomagnetic activity [PDF]
The relative effects of solar irradiance and geomagnetic activity on the atmospheric temperature anomalies (Ta) are examined from the monthly to interdecadal timescales. Geomagnetic Ap (Ap) signals are found primarily in the stratosphere, while the solar
