Field structures and singularities in subwavelength optics [PDF]
A brief overview of the current state of the problem of electromagnetic field singularities arising from the refraction and scattering of light by material objects is given. The discussion begins with caustics arising from ray tracing in geometric optics and consistently moves toward increasing the accuracy of consideration and decreasing the scale ...

Subwavelength structures for taper waveguides
Abstract In Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) it is often necessary some sort of mismatch adaptation between waveguides of different cross-sections. There are several instances of such a designing constraint, being the vertical coupling between the PIC and an optical fibre probably the most representative of all examples.

Ag-Yb Alloy-Novel Tunable Plasmonic Material
Metals are commonly used in plasmonic devices because of their strong plasmonic property. However, such properties are not easily tuned. For applications such as spatial light modulators and beam steering, tunable plasmonic properties are essential, and ...

Functional analytic methods for discrete approximations of subwavelength resonator systems [PDF]
We survey functional analytic methods for studying subwavelength resonator systems. In particular, rigorous discrete approximations of Helmholtz scattering problems are derived in an asymptotic subwavelength regime. This is achieved by re-framing the Helmholtz equation as a non-linear eigenvalue problem in terms of integral operators.

Ultra-Compact Sub-Wavelength Grating Polarization Splitter-Rotator for Silicon-on-Insulator Platform
We designed and fabricated a polarization splitter-rotator (PSR) on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform based on an asymmetric directional coupler. The asymmetric directional coupler consists of a regular strip waveguide and a sub-wavelength grating ...
