Subwavelength waveguide structures for optical interconnects

We report our advances in development of subwavelength engineered waveguide structures. This unique NRC patented technology [1,2] allows synthesis of a metamaterial with an unprecedented control of material properties, constituting a powerful tool for a designer of photonic integrated circuits.

Subwavelength structures for infrared filtering

This work deals with the replacement of the reflection layer stacks by sub-wavelength structures, which form the cavity of Fabry-Perot-Interferometer (FPI) infrared filters. Periodically arranged metal ring resonators are investigated regarding reflectivity and sensitivity with respect to polarization angle by Finite Difference Method (FDM) analysis.

In many applications, where the period of a grating structure is less than the wavelength of the incident light, the grating structure will function more like a medium of uniform index of refraction than as a normal grating. The effective medium index being equivalent to the volume mean index of the grating structure.

Subwavelength structure imaging

We expand conventional superresolving imaging systems toward extraction of suboptical wavelength structures. An imaging system that is capable of imaging subwavelength details is presented. Homogeneous waves carrying information on spatial frequencies exceeding the classical limit of resolution can be created by diffraction of evanescent waves.
