Subwavelength waveguide structures for optical interconnects
2015 17th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2015We report our advances in development of subwavelength engineered waveguide structures. This unique NRC patented technology [1,2] allows synthesis of a metamaterial with an unprecedented control of material properties, constituting a powerful tool for a designer of photonic integrated circuits.

High-Q subwavelength dielectric structures
Smart Photonic and Optoelectronic Integrated Circuits XXIII, 2021Recent progress is nanoscale photonics is driven by the physics of Mie resonances of high-index dielectric nanoparticles that provides a novel platform for localization of light in subwavelength photonic structures and opens new horizons for metamaterial-enabled photonics, or metaphotonics.

Subwavelength structures for infrared filtering
SPIE Proceedings, 2010This work deals with the replacement of the reflection layer stacks by sub-wavelength structures, which form the cavity of Fabry-Perot-Interferometer (FPI) infrared filters. Periodically arranged metal ring resonators are investigated regarding reflectivity and sensitivity with respect to polarization angle by Finite Difference Method (FDM) analysis.

Subwavelength-structured polarization-selective surfaces
SPIE Proceedings, 1998Subwavelength-period gratings exhibit a number of interesting polarization-selective properties. We investigate several such phenomena: an `inverse' wire-grid polarizer, which transmits TE light while stopping TM light, a guided-mode resonance filter with an order-of-magnitude difference in the width of the reflectance peak for the two orthogonal ...

Subwavelength structures in integrated optics
Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013Subwavelenth structures offer exciting new opportunities for integrated optics. Effective refractive index can be chosen from a broad range by lithographic patterning using just two materials. Many practical subwavelength engineered devices already demonstrated, with superior performance compared to their conventional counterparts and likely many more ...

Polarization separation element (subwavelength structure)
SPIE Proceedings, 2005In many applications, where the period of a grating structure is less than the wavelength of the incident light, the grating structure will function more like a medium of uniform index of refraction than as a normal grating. The effective medium index being equivalent to the volume mean index of the grating structure.

Subwavelength structures in SOI waveguides
8th IEEE International Conference on Group IV Photonics, 2011Our progress in subwavelength structures in silicon waveguides is reviewed. Several practical implementations of subwavelength grating waveguides are discussed, including fibre-chip couplers, waveguide crossings and athermal waveguides.

Subwavelength structure imaging
Optical Engineering, 2004We expand conventional superresolving imaging systems toward extraction of suboptical wavelength structures. An imaging system that is capable of imaging subwavelength details is presented. Homogeneous waves carrying information on spatial frequencies exceeding the classical limit of resolution can be created by diffraction of evanescent waves.
