Microscopy of subwavelength structures

Physics-Uspekhi, 1996
A more accurate formulation of the Abbe theory is presented using well-known open resonator results, namely, field representation in terms of the eigenfunctions of the optical system viewed as a segment of an equivalent lens waveguide; and the use of the mirror Fresnel number dependence of the diffraction losses of high-order Gaussian beams for ...

Phase gratings with subwavelength structures

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1995
Polarization-selective gratings are designed by use of rigorous electromagnetic diffraction theory. The polarizing effects are attained by special surface-relief structures. We present a scheme for coding two different optical functions in one diffractive element.

Anderson Localization in Subwavelength Plasmonic Structures

Frontiers in Optics / Laser Science, 2018
We used the FDTD simulation to study photon propagation in arrays of plasmonic particles. In such systems, structural randomness can lead to localization of light in the deep subwavelength regime, similar to Anderson localization of electrons.

High-performance subwavelength polarizer using “sandwich” structured substrates

Applied Optics, 2022
A subwavelength polarizer based on “sandwich” structured substrates is proposed in this study. The proposed subwavelength polarizer consists of three layers of subwavelength aluminum wires and dielectric substrate. The designed structure achieves an extinction ratio (ER) greater than 90 dB in a 400–800 nm visible wavelength region, achieving a maximum ...

Subwavelength structures for broadband antireflection application

Optics Communications, 2009
The subwavelength structures are designed and fabricated for broadband antireflection application. Under target of zero reflectivity, the parameters of periodic 2-D continuous conical structures are analyzed by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.

Subwavelength engineered structures for integrated photonics

2016 Progress in Electromagnetic Research Symposium (PIERS), 2016
We report our advances in development of subwavelength engineered structures for integrated photonics. This unique technology allows synthesis of an effective photonic medium with an unprecedented control of material properties, constituting a powerful tool for a designer of photonic integrated circuits.

Femtosecond Microfabrication of Subwavelength Photonic Structures

2006 European Conference on Optical Communications, 2006
The fabrication of sub-micron photonic structures beyond diffraction limit is demonstrated by means of tightly focused laser pulses. 25 mm long periodic structure with a pitch size of 260 nm is experimentally produced. Detailed numerical modelling is performed to establish mechanisms of such inscription.

Optical Elements with Subwavelength Structured Surfaces

Optical Review, 2003
Various optical elements with subwavelength structured surfaces have been developed. The periods of the subwavelength structures are too short to generate diffracted light waves. But the structures are equivalent to refractive index materials with form birefringence.

Reflective waveplate with subwavelength grating structure

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 2015
A reflective waveplate with subwavelength grating structure of the photoresist was fabricated using two-beam interference technology. From the optical measurement, it is found that the phase retardation of the fabricated reflective element (period: 400 nm, fill factor: 0.5, depth: 280 nm) was almost the same as that of the transmission waveplate with ...
