Technique for Myasthenia Gravis: Subxiphoid Approach.

Thoracic surgery clinics, 2019
Kido and colleagues in 1999 used for the first time the subxiphoid approach. Recently, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy has been improved for the advancement of surgical materials and new instruments. The most important aspect regarding the subxiphoid approach is the possibility to avoid the intercostal nerve damage with the ...

[Thymectomy via Trans-subxiphoid Approach].

Kyobu geka. The Japanese journal of thoracic surgery
Minimally invasive thoracoscopic thymectomy has been indicated in patients with non-invasive thymic epithelial tumors or myasthenia gravis. Sub-xiphoid thymectomy has an advantage of similar surgical view of median sternotomy as compare to lateral approach.

The Subxiphoid Approach Leads to Less Invasive Thoracoscopic Thymectomy Than the Lateral Approach

World Journal of Surgery, 2016

This study investigated the usefulness of the subxiphoid approach in thymectomy using VATS techniques.MethodsSixty operations were performed using the lateral approach (n = 46) and subxiphoid approach (n = 14). Using the lateral approach, 39 partial thymectomies

Open Videoassisted Techniques: Subxiphoid Approach with Bilateral Thoracoscopy

2008
For more than 50 years, sternal splitting thymectomy has been the gold standard ever since Blalock first introduced thymectomy for treatment of myasthenia in 1939 [1]. Jaretzki [2] and Masaoka [3] have demonstrated varied distribution of ectopic thymic tissues in the mediastinum and the neck.

[Echography in pneumopericardium. Value of the subxiphoid approach].

Annales de cardiologie et d'angeiologie, 1984
Para-sternal echocardiography proved impossible in a case of a large pneumopericardium caused by an oesophageo-pericardial fistula. However, M mode and sector scanning showed separation of the pericardium, giving non-homogeneous echoes, and shaded echographic areas caused by the interference of air which masked all recognisable structures.
