The Caenorhabditis elegans DPF‐3 and human DPP4 have tripeptidyl peptidase activity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) family comprises serine proteases classically defined by their ability to remove dipeptides from the N‐termini of substrates, a feature that gave the family its name. Here, we report the discovery of a previously unrecognized tripeptidyl peptidase activity in DPPIV family members from two different species.

Biodiversity relationships in three structural components in a beech forest of Fagus grandifolia subsp. mexicana

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2019
Background: Several studies have called attention to beech forest conservation and restoration in Mexico. Human activities (e.g., logging and grazing) have perturbed the few beech forests that persist in the Sierra Madre Oriental, Mexico. However, basic

Impacts of Land Abandonment on Vegetation: Successional Pathways in European Habitats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Changes in traditional agricultural systems in Europe in recent decades have led to widespread abandonment and colonization of various habitats by shrubs and trees.

Molecular bases of circadian magnesium rhythms across eukaryotes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circadian rhythms in intracellular [Mg2+] exist across eukaryotic kingdoms. Central roles for Mg2+ in metabolism suggest that Mg2+ rhythms could regulate daily cellular energy and metabolism. In this Perspective paper, we propose that ancestral prokaryotic transport proteins could be responsible for mediating Mg2+ rhythms and posit a feedback model ...

Assemblages of Collembola across a 130-year chronosequence of beech forest

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2011
Although microarthropods dominate forest floor faunas in both diversity and abundance, long-term aspects of forest cycles have been widely neglected in soil ecological research in the past.

Chronosequence Resampling Elucidates Tree Community and Forest Structure Recovery Patterns in Restored Tropical Rainforest

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Forest restoration is an essential tool for conserving biodiversity in tropical regions; yet, restoration outcomes in the Afrotropics remain largely understudied.

The nitrogen/phosphorus and the succession of phytoplankton in two lakes located in the alluvial prairie of main river in Germany

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2006
Variation in seasonal nitrogen/phosphorus ratio and phytoplankton community succession were compared between March and November 1997 in a lake directly connected to the Main River and in another lake without direct connection.

Introduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In view of the profound importance of questions of presidential succession and the lack of attention paid to them, this issue of the Fordham Law Review is, very simply, a great public service.

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...
