Phase transition in a spring-block model of surface fracture

open access: yes, 1996
A simple and robust spring-block model obeying threshold dynamics is introduced to study surface fracture of an overlayer subject to stress induced by adhesion to a substrate.

Hybrid Auxetic Architectures: Integrating Curvature‐Driven Design for Enhanced Mechanical Tunability and Structural Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Curvature‐tuned auxetic lattices are designed, fabricated, and mechanically characterized to reveal how geometric curvature governs stretchability, stress redistribution, and Poisson's ratio evolution. Photoelastic experiments visualize stress pathways, while hyperelastic simulations quantify deformation mechanics.

Remarks From Senator Birch Bayh [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
These Remarks are adapted from an address given by former Senator Birch Bayh at the symposium The Adequacy of the Presidential Succession System in the 21st Century, which was held at Fordham University School of Law on April 16 and 17, 2010.

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Can a Choice-of-Court Agreement Included in a Marriage Contract Meet the Requirements of Both EU Succession and Matrimonial Property Regulations?

open access: yesCroatian Yearbook of European Law and Policy, 2019
Due to the fact that matrimonial property and inheritance issues are closely intertwined, in some situations the determination of rules which should be applicable to particular relationships seems problematic.

"O lawful let it be / That I have room ... to curse a while" : voicing the nation's conscience in female complaint in Richard III, King John and Henry VIII [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To understand what drives this female‐led quest for justice we must situate this as a response to the traumas of the recent past which still convulse the respective play‐worlds, whether the legacy of internecine strife from the War of the Roses that ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Ab Initio Study on 3D Anisotropic Ferroelectric Switching Mechanism and Coercive Field in HfO2 and ZrO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a new switching mechanism in HfO2 and ZrO2, where the absence of a non‐polar layer along the a‐direction induces interaction between polar layers. Consequently, the switching barriers for growth are lower than those for nucleation in this direction, leading to a size‐dependent coercive field that matches experimental observations ...
