Generalized Schematic Successive Cancellation Decoding for Polar Codes

2021 IEEE International Black Sea Conference on Communications and Networking (BlackSeaCom), 2021
Recently, generalized polar codes were introduced to provide more code lengths and rates without the need for shortening or puncturing. However, as the size of the kernel matrix increases, computing the Log-Likelihood Ratio (LLR) functions in successive cancellation decoder for these codes becomes mathematically more complicated.

A Semi-Parallel Successive-Cancellation Decoder for Polar Codes

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2013
Polar codes are a recently discovered family of capacity-achieving codes that are seen as a major breakthrough in coding theory. Motivated by the recent rapid progress in the theory of polar codes, we propose a semi-parallel architecture for the implementation of successive cancellation decoding.

Enhanced Successive Cancellation List Decoding of Polar Codes

IEEE Communications Letters, 2017
Polar codes can be efficiently decoded by the successive cancellation list (SCL) algorithm in which the sorter plays an important role. The sorter, however, is time-consuming. We significantly improve this decoding scheme by developing a new non-sorting direct selection method for the SCL algorithm. In the non-sorting strategy, we design a new selector

An Efficient Successive Cancellation List Decoder for Polar Codes

2019 IEEE International Conference on Communications Workshops (ICC Workshops), 2019
Achieving a high decoding throughput using a successive cancellation list (SCL) decoder for polar codes is difficult due to its sequential decoding architecture. In this work, combining the local sorter from a single parity check (SPC) node with a shift-based path memory, a modified fast simplified successive cancellation list (Fast-SSCL) decoder is ...

Effectively Partitioned Implementation for Successive-Cancellation Polar Decoder

2019 IEEE 62nd International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2019
This paper proposes an effective field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of a successive-cancellation (SC) decoder for polar codes that have recently attracted attention as error-correcting codes adopted for 5G wireless systems. We focus on effective ways of partitioning the SC decoding procedure into combinational and sequential logic ...

Block successive cancellation decoding of polarization-based codes

2016 9th International Symposium on Turbo Codes and Iterative Information Processing (ISTC), 2016
Linear codes constructed using a polarization transformation followed by short blocklength sub-codes are proposed. Decoding is realized by the successive cancellation algorithm combined with standard optimal or non-optimal decoding of the sub-codes. List successive cancellation decoding can also be used.

Multiple candidates successive-cancellation decoding of polar codes

2012 International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP), 2012
This paper proposes an effective scheme to improve the error performance of conventional successive-cancellation (SC) decoding algorithm for polar codes. The proposed scheme, which is referred to as the multiple candidates (MC) scheme constructs a set of candidates for the starting vector for SC decoding.

Fast Successive-Cancellation-Based Decoders of Polar Codes

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2019
The successive-cancellation list (SCL) and successive-cancellation flip (SCF) decoding can be used to improve the performance of polar codes, especially for short to moderate length codes. However, their serial decoding nature results in significant decoding latencies. Implementing some operations in parallel can reduce their decoding latencies.

Successive Cancellation List Decoder with Adaptive List Length

2019 11th International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP), 2019
Successive cancellation list decoder, which is generalized from successive cancellation decoder by increasing list size, is an effective decoding algorithm for polar codes. However, the list length is invariant throughout the decoding process which leads to redundant computation.

Selective successive cancellation for decoding MIMO-OFDM transmission

2004 IEEE International Conference on Communications (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37577), 2004
A new iterative receiver based on Selective Successive Cancellation (SSC) is proposed for MIMO-OFDM systems. It improves the traditional successive cancellation (SC) method while having low complexity. The algorithm naturally interlaces the SC demodulation iterations with the decoding iterations.
