Woody, Animal‐Dispersed Species Recovery With Forest Age and Integrity in Secondary Tropical Forest Seed Banks

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 5, September 2025.
Graphical abstract showing relationships between forest age, forest landscape integrity index (FLII), and seed bank characteristics including density, species richness, dispersal mode, and community composition across a 130‐year chronosequence at Barro Colorado Nature Monument, Panama.

Comportamiento gregario aparente de dinosaurios condicionado por una deformación sinsedimentaria. (Igea, La Rioja. España)

open access: yesEstudios Geologicos, 1996
Durante la etapa de sedimentación que produjo las rocas que afloran en el yacimiento de la Era del Peladillo, hubo momentos de inestabilidad tectónica que deformaron capas de materiales todavía no enterrados.

Successional Growth Dynamics of Woody Saplings in Tropical Dry Forest Understory

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 3, May 2025.
The factors that drive sapling growth in tropical dry forest succession remain unclear. Growth rates are higher in the early stages of succession and then decrease. Light and not water seems to be the main factor limiting sapling growth along succession. The successional guild of species and the taxonomic identity as a Leguminosae were the main factors

Morphotype-based characterization of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities in a restored tropical dry forest, Margarita island-Venezuela

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2015
The mycorrhizal component of revegetated areas after ecological restoration or rehabilitation in arid and semiarid tropical areas has been scarcely assessed, particularly those made after mining disturbance.

Nitrogen and Phosphorus Allocation Strategies in a Chronosequence of Tropical Dry Forests: Plant Coordination and Environmental Drivers

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 57, Issue 2, March 2025.
We explored the allocation strategies of N and P in leaves and fine roots (metabolic organs) and, in stems and coarse roots (woody organs) of nine dominant tree species in secondary tropical dry forests using scaling analysis. The scaling relationships of P versus N concentrations in non‐leaf organs were isometric across secondary succession and ...

Aridity and forest age mediate landscape scale patterns of tropical forest resistance to cyclonic storms

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 1, Page 53-67, January 2025.
These findings show that selection towards drought‐tolerant traits across aridity gradients, such as short stature and dense wood, enhances resistance to hurricanes. However, forest age modulated responses to hurricanes, with older forests being less resistant across the islands.

Regeneración natural en zonas alteradas e identificación de especies forestales potenciales para recuperación hídrica en la microcuenca del rio Jipiro, Loja, Ecuador

open access: yesBosques Latitud Cero, 2018
Esta investigación se realizó en la microcuenca Jipiro del cantón Loja, formada por tres afluentes El Volcán, Sangre y El Salado, abastecedoras del 20 % de la demanda de agua potable para la ciudad de Loja.

Tree species abundance changes at the edges of their climatic distribution: An interplay between climate change, plant traits and forest management

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 12, Page 2785-2797, December 2024.
Our research emphasizes the crucial impact of historical forest management in shaping the current distribution of tree species. After controlling for the effect of forest management, climate change directly influenced tree demographics, favouring species based on their traits.

PicoCam: High‐resolution 3D imaging of live animals and preserved specimens

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 11, Page 1980-1989, November 2024.
Abstract The PicoCam system is a multi‐camera photogrammetry rig used for generating high‐resolution 3D models of animals in the field, or preserved specimens in laboratory or museum settings. The digital measurement of 3D models is increasingly useful for studying body shape. However, methods that capture sub‐millimetric detail often do so at the cost
