Electroadhesion Suction Cups

open access: yesAdvanced Materials
Abstract Suction cups are the light bulbs of robotics and automation. They are simple, reliable, yet energy‐hungry, and require a bulky and noisy vacuum infrastructure. This work reports Electroadhesion (EA) Suction Cups: soft, silent, monolithic, electrically‐driven grippers, with a power consumption of only 1.5 W, that can grasp ...

Ejecta‐Modulated Bubble Dynamics Play a Dominant Role in Stone Retropulsion

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stone motion during laser ablation is shown to result primarily from asymmetric cavitation bubble collapse, not from ejecta recoil. This challenges long‐standing assumptions and highlights the dominant role of bubble dynamics in laser–material interactions.

Performance of high-area-ratio annular dump diffuser using suction-stabilized-vortex flow control [PDF]

open access: yes
A short annular dump diffuser having a geometry conductive to formation of suction stabilized toroidal vortices in the region of abrupt area change was tested.

A contribution to the better understanding of swelling in soils and soft rocks

open access: yesGeologija, 2010
Swelling and shrinkage of sediments rich with clay belong to geologically conditioned risk factors. Economicloss as the consequence of volume changes in the geological catchment area of buildings and infrastructuralobjects is immense.

Nicotinamide and Pyridoxine Supplementation Enhances Muscle Stem Cell Activity and Muscle Regeneration in Humans: A Randomized Placebo‐Controlled Clinical Trial of High Force Eccentric Contraction Recovery in Healthy Young Men

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In a randomized clinical trial, we test the potential of combined nicotinamide (NAM) and pyridoxine (PN) to improve muscle recovery through muscle stem cell (MuSC) activity. Daily oral NAM and PN supplementation after high intensity muscle contractions enhances MuSC activation and differentiation, and accelerates muscle regeneration, providing new ...

Deformation Driven Suction Cups: A Mechanics‐Based Approach to Wearable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Deformation‐driven suction cups enable robust, reversible adhesion of wearable electronics to human skin spanning wide mechanical compliance, without adhesives or tight straps. By integrating mechanics modeling, experiments, and contact mechanics theory, this work reveals how cup geometry, substrate compliance, and interfacial adhesion govern suction ...

Effect of wall suction on performance of a short annular diffuser at inlet Mach numbers up to 0.5 [PDF]

open access: yes
A short annular diffuser equipped with wall bleed (suction)capability was evaluated at inlet Mach numbers of 0.186 to 0.5. The diffuser had an area ratio of 4.0 and a length-to-inlet height ratio of 1.6. Test results show that the exit velocity profiles,

Combining the Pitcher and Lotus Plant: Supericephobic and Superhydrophobic Silicone Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Based on bench‐top nanomolding of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with optimized silicone oil content, we developed hierarchically structured silicone films by essentially combining the properties of the lotus and pitcher plant; particularly we are able to achieve water contact angle as high as 171° and ice adhesion strength as low as 11.5 kPa (i.e ...
