Robot‐Assisted Doppler Optical Coherence Tomography for Intraoperative Evaluation of Microvascular Anastomoses

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work presents a robot‐assisted Doppler optical coherence tomography system for autonomous, wide‐field intraoperative assessment of microvascular anastomoses. Machine‐vision–guided probe positioning and adaptive scan planning enable three‐dimensional structural and hemodynamic imaging over extended vessel segments.

Soft Artificial Ciliary Brush with Integrated Haptic Feedback for Efficient Airway Mucus Cleaning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A fundamental mucus cleaning mechanism is reported, which utilizes both artificial cilia mechanical sweeping and suction‐based mucus cleaning. A novel haptic feedback interface for the artificial cilia provides touch feedback on tissue contact, enhancing operator control and safety.

OriGrasp: A Multifunctional Origami‐Inspired Instrument for Delicate Manipulation in Abdominal Surgery

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This paper introduces an origami‐inspired, lightweight, reconfigurable instrument for robot‐assisted minimally invasive surgery. Its foldable design enables tiny access, tunable compliance, and multifunctionality, serving as a tool introducer or deformable grasper that safely manipulates delicate bowel tissue.

Performance of a vortex-controlled diffuser in an annular swirl-can combustor at inlet Mach numbers up to 0.53 [PDF]

open access: yes
A short, annular dump diffuser with suction stabilized vortices in the region of abrupt area change was tested with a full scale, annular swirl can combustor. The prediffuser area ratio was 1.4.

Swallowing and Communication in Cockayne Syndrome: Clinical Characteristics and Management

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cockayne syndrome (CS) is an ultrarare genetic disorder associated with genes encoding proteins involved in DNA repair. The clinical course of CS involves neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative features, including swallowing and communication impairments.

A method for computing the leading-edge suction in a higher-order panel method [PDF]

open access: yes
Experimental data show that the phenomenon of a separation induced leading edge vortex is influenced by the wing thickness and the shape of the leading edge.

Unveiling a New Link: Cholesterol Deficiency in Smith–Lemli–Opitz and Niemann–Pick C as a Driver of Ciliopathies

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ciliopathies are a group of genetic disorders caused by defective function of either the primary cilia (a large number) or the motile cilia (a much smaller number). These have been defined as diseases with mutations in genes encoding individual ciliary or cilia‐associated proteins.

Severe, Non‐apneic Respiratory Dysfunction and Hypoxia following Generalized Convulsive Seizures

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is a devastating consequence of some generalized convulsive seizures (GCS). Recent work has focused on seizure related apnea as a biomarker of SUDEP risk, frequently without characterizing the adequacy of non‐apneic ventilation or identifying other dysfunctional breathing patterns.
