Load-bearing behavior of suction bucket foundations in sand
Applied Ocean Research, 2013Abstract Suction buckets are a promising foundation solution for offshore wind energy systems. The bearing behavior of monopod buckets under drained monotonic loading in very dense and medium dense sand is investigated in this study by means of numerical simulation with the finite element method.

Field Installation Tests of Monopod Suction Pile and Tripod Suction Buckets
Volume 6: Polar and Arctic Sciences and Technology; Offshore Geotechnics; Petroleum Technology Symposium, 2013Small-scale field tests on a monopod suction pile with and without the detachable penetration apparatus (DPA) and tripod suction buckets have been performed. One of the objectives of the field tests was to identify the capability of the DPA at small-scale and to obtain useful information for planned future full-scale field tests. The DPA which has been

1. The construction of the bucket-ladder suction dredge prevents clogging of the intake of the impeller of the suction dredge and its intense wear when excavating ground with a content of large boulders. 2. The use of the bucket-ladder dredge, particularly the dredge with the sluice apparatus, increases the utilization factor of the ...

Three dimensional limit analysis of suction bucket foundations
Ocean Engineering, 2010Abstract This paper presents a three dimensional limit method based on the upper bound theory for the stability of suction bucket foundations of offshore platforms. The bucket embedded in soil is subjected to a lateral load applied above the mud line. In order to simulate the lateral load, a fictitious soil layer is assumed, having a thickness equals

Effect of partial drainage on the pullout behaviour of a suction bucket foundation
European Journal of Environmental and Civil Engineering, 2021Suction-bucket-supported jacket foundations are being used increasingly for offshore wind turbines, the advantages being large bearing capacity and efficient installation.

On the behavior of suction buckets in sand under tensile loads
Computers and Geotechnics, 2014Abstract Suction buckets can be used instead of driven piles for the support of jacket or tripod foundations for offshore wind energy converters (OWECs). However, due to the relatively small self weight of offshore wind structures, considerable tensile loads can occur for instance during storms; these loads usually govern the dimensioning of the ...

Undrained Uniaxial Capacities of Suction Bucket Foundations in Rows
Volume 9: Offshore Geotechnics; Honoring Symposium for Professor Bernard Molin on Marine and Offshore Hydrodynamics, 2018Suction bucket foundations in rows, sunk by self-weight and passive suction, can be used as footings of breakwater, trestle bridge, offshore cofferdam and other structures, and they have a fine application prospect on soft soil for their advantages of good bearing capacities, simple construction, low investment, being reusable and so forth.

17.05: Advanced framework for suction bucket jacket design
ce/papers, 2017ABSTRACTThe suction bucket is a well know foundation concept from the oil and gas industry and the concept is now adopted in the foundation of jacket substructures for offshore wind turbines. The suction buckets transfer the loads from the jacket to the soil and it is essential to include the jacket‐bucket‐soil interaction.Ramboll has developed a ...

Numerical Analysis of Cluster and Monopod Suction Bucket Foundation
Volume 6: Polar and Arctic Sciences and Technology; Offshore Geotechnics; Petroleum Technology Symposium, 2013Numerical analyses were performed to study the cluster suction bucket foundation performance in comparison with the monopod suction bucket foundation. The possibility of improving the resistance performance of suction bucket foundations by using cluster configuration was studied. Clustered foundations are formed by arranging multiple bucket foundations
