Failure envelope considering the ultimate tensile capacity of suction caissons in sand
Little analytical work has been done to elucidate the ultimate capacity of suction caissons under vertical tensile (V), lateral (H), and moment (M) loads in soils.

The Seepage and Soil Plug Formation in Suction Caissons in Sand Using Visual Tests
The rapid development of offshore wind energy in China is becoming increasingly relevant for movement toward green development. This paper presents the results of visual tests of a suction caisson used as foundation for offshore wind turbines.

Suction caissons for wind turbines
Suction caissons may be used in the future as the foundations for offshore wind turbines. We review recent research on the development of design methods for suction caissons for these applications. We give some attention to installation, but concentrate on design for in-service performance.

Suction Caisson Foundations for Offshore Wind Turbines
This paper outlines a £ 1.5m, three year, research project that commenced during the middle of 2002 to determine a design framework for shallow foundations for offshore wind turbines. The shallow foundations in focus are suction-installed skirted foundations otherwise known as suction caissons (Houlsby and Byrne, 2000). There are eight distinct themes

Dynamic lateral response of suction caissons [PDF]
Abstract Deeper water installations of offshore wind turbines may be supported by jacket structures. This study investigates the dynamic response of suction caissons for jackets by analysing 3D finite element models in the frequency domain. The numerical modelling was firstly validated by analytical solutions for pile foundations.

Centrifugal model tests on sinking and seepage of a large deep-water open caisson
Based on a largest deep-water open caisson, the centrifuge model tests simulate the seepage field caused by mud suction during sinking when the caisson is buried more than 35 m deep.

Prediction of suction caissons behavior in cohesive soils using computational intelligence methods [PDF]
Compared to drag anchors, suction caissons (Q) in clays often provide a cost-effective alternative for jacket structures, catenary, tension leg moorings, and taut leg.

Calculation Method for Uplift Capacity of Suction Caisson in Sand Considering Different Drainage Conditions [PDF]
Uplift capacity of suction caissons is one of the main concerns in the design of jackets with multi-caissons supported offshore wind turbine. The uplift movement of suction caissons leads to soil stress variation and increases the difficulty to predict ...
