Analysis of Suction Caisson Capacity in Clay
Offshore Technology Conference, 2002Abstract The paper addresses analysis techniques and design parameters for suction caissons in clay for loading conditions ranging from horizontal to vertical. A three-dimensional upper bound approach is described for caissons undergoing significant horizontal motion or rotation, and the relative accuracy of the ...

Measured Horizontal Capacity of Suction Caissons
Offshore Technology Conference, 2004Abstract Laboratory tests were conducted to study the behavior of suction caissons when loaded horizontally below the mudline. The experiments were performed using a 4-in. diameter caisson installed to a depth of 32 in. in normally consolidated kaolinite clay.

Soil Reconsolidation Following the Installation of Suction Caissons
Offshore Technology Conference, 2003Abstract Experiments are being performed with a prototype suction caisson in tanks of soft clay. This paper contains recent test results and numerical simulations showing the reconsolidation behavior of the soil around the installed caisson.

Numerical Analysis of Bearing Capacity of Suction Caisson
Volume 2: Structures, Safety and Reliability, 2008This paper presents a finite element modeling for determination of bearing capacity of a suction caisson subjected to vertical uplift loading. The approach looks at the uplift capacity of the caisson considering a non-uniform cross sectional area to account for a geometry optimization.

Reliability Analyses of Suction Caissons for FPSO Systems
Volume 2: Structures, Safety and Reliability, 2008The reliability formulation for the analyses of suction caissons subjected to environmental loadings from FPSO systems is presented in this paper. The capacity model for the suction caisson assumes normally consolidated clays with a linear variation on the undrained shear strength.

Application of Suction Caisson Foundations in the Gulf of Mexico
Offshore Technology Conference, 1998Abstract In the last decade, use of suction caissons (suction piles) has increased in offshore arena. Suction caissons have the appearance of inverted buckets with sealed tops and are installed by pumping water out of them.
