Studies on nasopharyngeal carcinoma in the sudan—I. Epidemiology and aetiology

Three hundred and seventy-four cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) recorded in the Sudan Cancer Registry (SCR) and 512 cases seen at the Radiation and Isotope Centre, Khartoum (RICK) were analysed. NPC formed 5.8% of all cancer cases in the SCR and 7.2% at the RICK; this is the highest frequency so far reported outside the Chinese.

One of the most important pests of rain-grown cotton in the Sudan is the genus Dysdercus (Pyrrhocoridae) of the Hemiptera Heteroptera. Upon the introduction of cotton into the southern provinces of the Sudan, these insects appeared in great numbers, and in certain districts threatened to render impossible the growing of the crop.

On Proteocephalus sandoni n. sp. from the Sudan

The material for this species consists of a slide of two worms from the intestine of Heterotis niloticus from the Sudan. The strobilae measure 4·8 cm., and 8 cm. in length. The early segments are longer than broad, but the mature segments are broader than long, measuring 900–960µ broad by 400µ long, and are 175 and 274 in number.
