Pattern Matching on Sparse Suffix Trees [PDF]
International audienceWe consider a compact text index based on evenly spaced sparse suffix trees of a text [9]. Such a tree is defined by partitioning the text into blocks of equal size and constructing the suffix tree only for those suffixes that start

IN PURSUIT OF THE HOFFMANNESQUE
ABSTRACT This article seeks to elucidate the term ‘Hoffmannesque’ — the eponymous adjective that refers to E. T. A. Hoffmann — through recourse to Hoffmann's own use of ‘esque’ words: arabesque, grotesque, burlesque, picturesque. By investigating the characteristics of ‘esque’ formulations and tracing their recurrence through Hoffmann's texts, I argue ...

Ontogenetic Sequence of Differential Gene Expression in Predator‐Induced Daphnia pulex
ABSTRACT In response to predators, many Daphnia species develop inducible morphological defenses. These traits are phenotypically plastic, meaning their production is suppressed in the absence of the predator. While previous studies have identified several neurohumoral factors and candidate genes involved in the development of the defenses, the ...

Structator: fast index-based search for RNA sequence-structure patterns
Background The secondary structure of RNA molecules is intimately related to their function and often more conserved than the sequence. Hence, the important task of searching databases for RNAs requires to match sequence-structure patterns. Unfortunately,

Phylogenetic relationships among 97.6% of Gyponini genera and 97.4% of subgenera were inferred using morphological and multilocus molecular data. Analyses support the monophyly of Gyponini, transfer Hoplojassini to Hylicinae and establish Chilenanini trib. nov. within Iassinae.

Grammar Compression With Support to Fast Substring Extraction
We present a simple grammar-based compression strategy derived from the factorization used in the DC3 suffix-sorting algorithm that supports fast substring extraction. The input string is partitioned into non-overlapping substrings of fixed length $X$ ,
