Modeling Length Adjustment in Alluvial Anabranching Units

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Anabranching units form when the stream flow divides into two channels that reconnect downstream. Recent observations indicate that these patterns tend to develop fairly regular planforms, characterized by an average length that scales with reach‐averaged channel geometry and by weak asymmetry between the anabranches.

Computational methods for automated center determination in electron diffraction patterns

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 59, Issue 3, Page 845-857, June 2026.
This study evaluates and compares automated methods for center detection in 2D diffractograms. The methods have been implemented in EDIFF, an open‐source user‐friendly Python package for the processing of electron diffraction patterns.Accurate center detection in electron diffraction patterns is critical for all subsequent processing of experimental ...

Caution Ahead: Numerical Reasoning and Look‐Ahead Bias in AI Models

open access: yesJournal of Accounting Research, Volume 64, Issue 3, Page 1139-1188, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent work within accounting and finance has highlighted that modern AI systems exhibit superhuman performance on a variety of foundational activities within these fields. However, the literature often does not provide economic rationale for why AI models seem to outperform, largely because these models are a black box.

Protein intake in aged care residents before and after the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety: A review of historical data compared to contemporary intakes

open access: yesNutrition &Dietetics, Volume 83, Issue 3, Page 387-398, June 2026.
Abstract Aim Malnutrition is prevalent among aged care residents and is exacerbated by inadequate provision and intake of protein. High rates of malnutrition and inadequate provision of protein were two issues raised by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety that prompted the Federal government to provide financial support to the sector

Viral Assemblages of a Hypersaline Estuary Show Divergent Responses to Freshwater and Temperature Disturbances

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Metagenomic assessment of viromes at two sites in Laguna Madre, a hypersaline estuary, showed unique viral communities. Extreme cold temperature changes showed a greater propensity to enrich AMGs toward oxidative phosphorylation and sulfur metabolism. Extreme shifts in salinity led to homogenized viral taxonomic groups more similar to those typically ...
