Comparative hydrolysis and fermentation of sugarcane and agave bagasse

Bioresource Technology, 2009
Sugarcane and agave bagasse samples were hydrolyzed with either mineral acids (HCl), commercial glucanases or a combined treatment consisting of alkaline delignification followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. Acid hydrolysis of sugar cane bagasse yielded a higher level of reducing sugars (37.21% for depithed bagasse and 35.37% for pith bagasse), when ...

Sugarcane bagasse into value-added products: a review

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2022
Strategic valorization of readily available sugarcane bagasse (SB) is very important for waste management and sustainable biorefinery. Conventional SB pretreatment methods are ineffective to meet the requirement for industrial adaptation. Several past studies have highlighted different pretreatment procedures which are lacking environmentally benign ...

Extraction and characterization of wax from sugarcane bagasse and the enzymatic hydrolysis of dewaxed sugarcane bagasse

Preparative Biochemistry & Biotechnology, 2016
Extraction of high-value products from agricultural wastes is an important component for sustainable bioeconomy development. In this study, wax extraction from sugarcane bagasse was performed and the beneficial effect of dewaxing pretreatment on the enzymatic hydrolysis was investigated.

Fractionation of sugarcane bagasse by hydrothermal treatment

Bioresource Technology, 2003
Hydrothermal treatment of sugarcane bagasse was conducted using a semi-batch reactor to develop a new biomass fractionation method that has low impact in the environment. A continuously increasing temperature was used in this treatment. It was found that hemicellulose and lignin could be mainly extracted as a water-soluble fraction at 200-230 degrees C,

Vacuum pyrolysis of sugarcane bagasse

Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2002
Abstract The objective of this study was to provide background data on sugarcane bagasse vacuum pyrolysis. Product yields and properties were investigated. Vacuum pyrolysis tests were performed at bench and pilot plant scales. The bagasse finest particles with a diameter smaller than 450 μm were removed in order to overcome difficulties caused by ...

Sugarcane Straw and Bagasse

2014
For centuries now, sugarcane is being cultivated and is acting as a source of sugar production. This production is the source of many breeding programs all around the world. The sugarcane straw usually considered as trash is normally burned or is left in the soil depending on the harvesting system.

The influence of supermasscolloider on the morphology of sugarcane bagasse and bagasse cellulose

Fibers and Polymers, 2016
Sugarcane bagasse (SB) was subjected to mechanical and chemical treatments in order to investigate the influence of both treatments on the morphology of cellulose extracted from SB. Samples treated with supermasscolloider (SMC) showed a slight increase in the cellulose content and a highest content after chemical treatment.
