Accommodation of Dental Variations During Jaw Growth in Ungulate Mammals

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, Volume 344, Issue 8, Page 487-504, December 2025.
Using geometric morphometrics, we compared the covariation pattern of the dentition and the palate during growth in 23 ungulate species. ABSTRACT The growth of teeth and jaw bones is intimately linked in vertebrates, especially in mammals due to their specialized dentition and limited body growth.

High Mammal Diversity and Flagship Species Persist Under Community Conservation in a Forest‐Savannah Transition Zone in Central Cameroon

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Community conservation areas often classified as council forests play an important role in the persistence or maintenance of diverse mammal communities. However, these areas often receive limited conservation attention and resources. The Yoko Council Forest (YCF) is among the key biodiversity hotspot areas found in Cameroon.

Zebra stripes: the questions raised by the answers

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 100, Issue 6, Page 2660-2680, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Multiple hypotheses have been suggested to explain why the three zebra species (Equus quagga, E. grevyi and E. zebra) are striped. We review how well these theories explain the nature (rather than simply the existence) of the stripes. Specifically, we explore how well different theories explain (i) the form of zebra stripes (especially on ...
