Este estudo pretende descrever e analisar um fenômeno muito observado na fala: a variação dos ditongos orais decrescentes ou monotongação. Sob o ponto de vista da teoria da Variação e a partir de dados do Projeto VARSUL, busca-se identificar os fatores linguísticos e extralinguísticos que influenciam a aplicação da regra.
