The sensitivities of strains of Serratia marcescens isolated from clinical specimens, to trimethoprim (TMP), sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), and to a combination of the two drugs (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole) were examined. All strains were sensitive to TMP (MICs, 0.1-1 ELg/ml) with varying degrees of sensitivity to SMZ (MICs, 1.0 tg/ml).

Sulfamethoxazole-imprinted polymer for selective determination of sulfamethoxazole in tablets
Journal of Chromatography A, 2004A sulfamethoxazole (SMO)-imprinted polymer (MIP) was prepared in acetonitrile using the mixture of acrylamide and 4-vinylpyridine as functional monomers. The molecular recognition properties of the polymer was evaluated in both acetonitrile and aqueous acetonitrile mobile phases. SMO contents in two kinds of tablets were determined satisfactorily using

Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole Desensitization
Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 1996Although alternative therapy for PCP remains limited, the role of TMP/SMX desensitization becomes increasingly important in patients with AIDS. Various successful desensitization protocols have been described in this article. As there are no established guidelines, it appears that the desensitization procedure can occur in small successive doses given ...

Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole in Brucellosis
Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1973A clinical trial of the combination of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole (TMPSMZ), was conducted in 86 patients with brucellosis, hospitalized either in Trikala (Thessaly) or in Athens. All cases had the typical clinical picture of acute brucellosis, or that of special localizations and high titers of agglutination reactions in their sera.

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and Immunosuppression
Scandinavian Journal of Rheumatology, 1988It has been suggested that many of the commonly used antimicrobial agents exert under experimental conditions an immunosuppressive effect at concentrations that not exceeding those necessary for therapeutical effect (1).

Trimethoprim and Sulfamethoxazole in Pregnancy
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1971To the Editor.— New drugs must be considered as contraindicated during pregnancy, especially at the time of organogenesis. The trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole combinations (Bactrim, Septrin) are apparently not teratogenic in animals when given in therapeutic doses.
