Detection of antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treatment plant – molecular and classical approach

open access: yesArchives of Environmental Protection, 2015
Antibiotics are a group of substances potentially harmful to the environment. They can play a role in bacterial resistance transfer among pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria.

On‐site pilot‐scale advanced oxidation pretreatment of hospital wastewater: assessment of pharmaceuticals, pathogens, antibiotic resistance genes and acute ecotoxicity

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

Gold nanoparticles capped with sulfamethoxazole-ovotransferrin conjugate as a potential nanomedicine for the treatment of microbial infections

open access: yesJournal of Medical Science
Introduction. Although sulfonamide antibiotics are potent antimicrobial agents against bacterial infections, their water insolubility and toxicity at high doses limit their therapeutic efficacy.

Synthesis of polyaniline/TiO2 nanocomposites: effects of acid and aniline concentrations on material properties and photocatalytic performance for sulfamethoxazole degradation

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND This work investigated the synthesis of TiO2‐P25/polyaniline (PANI) nanocomposites, denoted as PANI– TiO2, via chemical oxidative polymerization under different aniline:H+ molar ratios, and evaluated their performance in heterogeneous photocatalysis (HP).

Dasatinib and quercetin prevent alveolar bone loss in aged mice

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Recent findings have associated alveolar bone loss (ABL) with the presence of senescent cells. Aging and the accumulation of senescent cells are associated with a pro‐inflammatory environment which may exacerbate tissue damage.

Design of magnetic metal-organic frameworks-molecularly imprinted polymer for extracting and microfluidic sensing of sulfamethoxazole

open access: yesNano Research
This study successfully designed and synthesized a novel magnetic molecularly imprinted composite material, Fe3O4@PCN-222@MIP, which integrates Fe3O4 nanoparticles, zirconium-based metal-organic framework (PCN-222), and molecularly imprinted polymer ...

The safe and effective use of tofacitinib and ustekinumab combination therapy in infantile onset inflammatory bowel disease

open access: yesJPGN Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Infantile‐onset inflammatory bowel disease (IOIBD) is a rare and severe subset of very‐early‐onset IBD, often associated with immune dysregulation and poor response to conventional therapies. Data regarding the use of Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKI) in this population is limited.

Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Environmentally Relevant Sulfamethoxazole Induces Developmental Toxicity in Embryo-Larva of Marine Medaka (Oryzias melastigma)

open access: yesFishes
Sulfamethoxazole (SMX), a commonly used sulfonamide antibiotic, poses a threat to aquatic life due to its widespread presence in the environment. This study aims to investigate the specific effects of SMX on the development of marine medaka (Oryzias ...
