Polymorphism in Sulfanilamide-d4
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1970Thermal behaviors of four crystalline forms of sulfanilamide and of sulfanilamide-d4 have been examined. Heats of transition and fusion have been determined. The deuterated modifications exhibit smaller heats of transition and heats of fusion than the corresponding undeuterated forms. There is, however, a difference in the magnitude of this decrease in

In previous studies of the streptococcidal power of whole blood in vitro, it was ascertained that the organisms were killed by intracellular digestion following phagocytosis. In order to render phagocytosis effective, it was necessary to have specific antibody present in the plasma. Plasma without leukocytes was incapable of killing organisms.

Sulfanilamide (para-aminobenzenesulfonamide base) and its related compounds have assumed a prominent position in the medical armamentarium during the past two years. Providing as they do a specific and apparently effective form of treatment for a group of conditions previously difficult of therapeutic approach, it is small wonder that the drugs have ...

Despite the widespread use of sulfanilamide (paraaminobenzenesulfonamide) in the treatment of certain bacterial infections, very scanty data are available concerning its toxicity for animals. Several observers have reported on its toxicity, using very limited numbers of animals. Buttle and his co-workers, 1 giving the drug in acacia suspension by mouth,
