Contamination of surface waters by mining wastes in the Milluni Valley (Cordillera Real, Bolivia): Mineralogical and hydrological influences [PDF]
This study is one of very few dealing with mining waste contamination in high altitude, tropical-latitude areas exploited during the last century. Geochemical, mineralogical and hydrological characterizations of potentially harmful elements (PHEs) in ...

Data-Driven Design of Ecofriendly Thermoelectric High-Entropy Sulfides.
High-entropy compounds with compositional complexity can be designed as new thermoelectric materials. Here a data-driven model was developed, which chose suitable elements to reduce the enthalpy of formation and hence to increase the chance of single ...

The ultraselective H2S detection of the ZIF‐L/SnS2 heterostructure is demonstrated. The introduction of 2‐dimensional (2D) breathable ZIF‐L results in a substantial increase in H2S selectivity attributable to the molecular sieving effect, which impedes the permeation of gases with large kinetic diameters and high polarity.

Lead and neodymium isotopic results from metabasalts of the Haveri Formation, southern Finland: Evidence for Palaeoproterozoic enriched mantle [PDF]
Tholeiitic metabasalts and coexisting sulphides have been analysed for their Pb and Nd isotopic compositions from the Proterozoic Haveri Formation, which forms the basal unit of the Tampere Schist Belt in southern Finland. Ten whole rock samples analysed

A kinetic and theoretical study of the borate catalysed reactions of hydrogen peroxide: the role of dioxaborirane as the catalytic intermediate for a wide range of substrates [PDF]
Our recent work has provided new insights into the equilibria and species that exist in aqueous solution at different pHs for the boric acid – hydrogen peroxide system, and the role of these species in oxidation reactions. Most recently, (M. C.

Thermally Induced Gelling Systems Based on Patchy Polymeric Micelles
A novel strategy to design thermally induced gelling systems with tunable material properties is reported. Polymeric mixed‐shell micelles displaying multiple thermosensitive patchy domains formed hydrogels by assembling into well‐entangled worm‐like network structures upon heating to body temperature. The patchy micelle design significantly affects the

Concrete-like till: A scientific and economic problem [PDF]
In Finland, extremely compact and hard, concrete-like basal till, a type rare to the country, occurs in the district of Haukipudas on the coast of Northern Ostrobothnia. The cause of cementation is not its age but rather the composition of the underlying

The seed pod valves of Australian Banksia attenuata plants are not simply bi‐layers which bend when dry. These experiments and models reveal complex mechanics, which allow seed release only after several steps of seed pod opening. Stiffness gradients prevent delamination of the valves during loading, and a shape‐memory function protects the seeds ...

Wafer-scale epitaxial growth of single orientation WS2 monolayers on sapphire [PDF]
Realization of wafer-scale single-crystal films of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) such as tungsten sulfide requires epitaxial growth and coalescence of oriented domains to form a continuous monolayer. The domains must be oriented in the same crystallographic direction on the substrate to avoid the formation of metallic inversion domain ...
