Sulfonamides in dermatology [PDF]

open access: possibleDisease-a-Month, 2003
The first sulfonamide therapy was discovered by Domagk, who, in 1932, discovered that an orange-red sulfonamide dye named prontosil rubrum was safe and effective in curing streptococcal infections in mice. He confirmed the effectiveness of the dye through various experiments The discovery of the sulfonamides represented the first real breakthrough in ...

Sulfonamide Hypersensitivity

Clinical Reviews in Allergy & Immunology, 2021
Sulfonamides, particularly antimicrobial sulfonamides, have been implicated as a common cause of a spectrum of hypersensitivity reactions. Immediate IgE-mediated reactions have been reported but are much less common than delayed cutaneous reactions. Delayed cutaneous reactions range from benign exanthems to severe cutaneous reactions such as Stevens ...

Allergy to sulfonamides

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2013
CLINICAL VIGNETTE A 48-year-old man was referred to our clinic with high-grade intermittent fever for 8 days and a generalized rash for 3 days. Threeweeks before presentation, the patient had been started on 5 mg/d prednisolone, 50 mg of diclofenac twice daily, 20 mg/d omeprazole, and 2 g/d of sulfasalazine for symptomatic ankylosing spondylitis ...

From Antibacterial to Antitumour Agents: A Brief Review on The Chemical and Medicinal Aspects of Sulfonamides.

Mini-Reviews in Medical Chemistry, 2020
BACKGROUND Sulfonamides have been in clinical use for many years and the development of bioactive substances containing the sulfonamide subunit has grown steadily in view of their important biological properties such as antibacterial, antifungal ...

Polymorphism in Sulfonamides

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1972
An evaluation of entropies and enthalpies of transition and fusion and a comparison of X-ray diffraction patterns and IR spectra of polymorphic forms of structurally related compounds were undertaken to obtain information which might prove useful in correlating the frequency of occurrence of polymorphism with certain aspects of chemical structure ...

Sequential C-S and S-N Coupling Approach to Sulfonamides.

Organic Letters, 2020
A one-pot three-component reaction involving nitroarenes, (hetero)arylboronic acids, and potassium pyrosulfite leading to sulfonamides was described.

Copper-Catalyzed Remote C(sp3 )-H Trifluoromethylation of Carboxamides and Sulfonamides.

Angewandte Chemie, 2019
Reported herein is an unprecedented protocol for trifluoromethylation of unactivated aliphatic C(sp3 )-H bonds. With Cu(OTf)2 as the catalyst, the reaction of N-fluoro-substituted carboxamides (or sulfonamides) with Zn(CF3 )2 complexes provides the ...

Stimulation of human T cells with sulfonamides and sulfonamide metabolites

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2010
Exposure to sulfonamides is associated with a high incidence of hypersensitivity reactions. Antigen-specific T cells are involved in the pathogenesis; however, the nature of the antigen interacting with specific T-cell receptors is not fully defined. We sought to explore the frequency of sulfamethoxazole (SMX)- and SMX metabolite-specific T cells in ...

SULFONAMIDE HEPATITIS

Journal of Internal Medicine, 1972
AbstractTwo cases of hepatitis induced by sulfonamides are described. The causative relationship was verified by the administration of a test dose. The administration caused in both cases a prompt appearance of clinical reaction followed by a rise of serum bilirubin and enzyme activities, which subsided within 10 days.
