Influence of sulfonated SiO2 in sulfonated polyether ether ketone nanocomposite membrane in microbial fuel cell

Fuel, 2015
Abstract Microbial fuel cell (MFC) is a bioreactor for simultaneous electricity generation and wastewater treatment. Modified nanocomposite membranes based on sulfonated poly ether ether ketone (SPEEK) and sulfonated SiO2 (SiO2–SO3H) were fabricated and evaluated in a microbial fuel cell configuration.

Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy resin–polyether sulfone/polyether sulfone ether ketone blends: phase morphology, fracture toughness and thermo-mechanical properties

Colloid and Polymer Science, 2006
The properties of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A epoxy resin toughened with poly(ether sulfone ether ketone) (PESEK) and poly(ether sulfone) (PES) polymers were investigated. PESEK was synthesised by the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4,4’-difluorobenzophenone with dihydroxydiphenylsulfone using sulfolane as solvent and potassium carbonate as ...

Performances of Sulfonated Polyether Ether Ketone Composite Membranes for Fuel Cell Applications

International Journal of Nanoscience, 2015
A variety of modification approaches such as cross-linking and nano blending have been explored to prepare efficient membranes based on Sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK). The addition filler is also one of the most widely used approaches to modify the SPEEK.

Development of bioactive sodium alginate/sulfonated polyether ether ketone/hydroxyapatite nanocomposites: Synthesis and in-vitro studies

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2021
Developing bioactive composites to fill bone cavities caused by disease, injury or surgery still remains a challenge. The aim of this research was to develop a new nanostructured sodium alginate/sulfonated polyether ether ketone/nano-hydroxyapatite (Alg/SPEEK/HA) biocomposite via a simple chemical precipitation strategy. Structural analysis was carried

Composite membrane of sulfonated polyether ether ketone (sPEEK) – Chitosan for direct methanol fuel cell

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020
The challenge of commercialization of fuel cells in Indonesia is mainly the caused by high manufacturing costs, particulary the cost of electrolyte membrane which is one of the important components of fuel cells. The use of inexpensive and abundant local materials such as sulfonated polyether ether ketone polymers and chitosan, to replace the currently

Effect of sulfonation time on physicochemical, osteogenic, antibacterial properties and biocompatibility of carbon fiber reinforced polyether ether ketone

Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, 2023
The carbon fiber reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK) has been increasingly used in orthopedics dentistry due to its excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties. However, the biological inertness and poor antibacterial activity limit its clinical applications. This paper focused on the performances of CFR-PEEK with porous morphology that

Scaleup suitability of sulfonated polyether ether ketone membrane‐based microbial fuel cell

Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy, 2015
A sustainable clean energy production from oxidation of biodegradable materials was carried out in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) stack consisting of four MFC units. The stack was fabricated and tested for its scalability using a high engineering, low oxygen mass transfer membrane; namely, sulfonated poly ether ether ketone. Sodium acetate was used as the

Electrochemically reduced graphene oxide / sulfonated polyether ether ketone composite membrane for electrochemical applications

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2013
A simple and effective method for the preparation of sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) based composites with electrochemical reduced graphene oxide (EGO) as inorganic fillers has been described. The resulting dispersions are homogeneous and the cast membranes show significant improvement on tensile strength and thermal properties.

Sulfonated polyether ether ketone membranes cured with different methods for direct methanol fuel cells

Journal of Materials Science Letters, 2003
Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFC) have attracted considerable attention, since they offer numerous benefits, such as high efficiency, high power density, low or zero emissions and reliability. The proton exchange membrane (PEM) is one of the most critical components in the direct methanol fuel cell. Generally, PEMs with high proton conductivity and low
