The carbon fiber reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFR-PEEK) has been increasingly used in orthopedics dentistry due to its excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties. However, the biological inertness and poor antibacterial activity limit its clinical applications. This paper focused on the performances of CFR-PEEK with porous morphology that

Developing bioactive composites to fill bone cavities caused by disease, injury or surgery still remains a challenge. The aim of this research was to develop a new nanostructured sodium alginate/sulfonated polyether ether ketone/nano-hydroxyapatite (Alg/SPEEK/HA) biocomposite via a simple chemical precipitation strategy. Structural analysis was carried

Proton conducting composite membranes from sulfonated polyether ether ketone and SiO2
Journal Wuhan University of Technology, Materials Science Edition, 2009Proton conducting composite membranes from sulfonated polyether ether ketone and SiO2 for direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) application were prepared with sulfonated polyether ether ketone(SPEEK) and tetracethoxy silane(TEOS) by sol-gel method. The covalent crosslinking structure was formed between —SO3H of SPEEK via SiO2.

Scaleup suitability of sulfonated polyether ether ketone membrane‐based microbial fuel cell
Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy, 2015A sustainable clean energy production from oxidation of biodegradable materials was carried out in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) stack consisting of four MFC units. The stack was fabricated and tested for its scalability using a high engineering, low oxygen mass transfer membrane; namely, sulfonated poly ether ether ketone. Sodium acetate was used as the

Appropriate membrane for blood contacting applications requires hemocompatibility and high permeation flux; it should inhibit proteins or platelets adsorption and still possess high permeability. Aiming to improve the polyethersulfone (PES) hollow fiber membrane hemocompatibility, sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) is self‐synthesized in the ...

AbstractBACKGROUNDPolyether ether ketone (PEEK) was modified by a sulfuric and nitric acid mixed system to improve the solubility of the material and the gas selective permeability of the film. SN1 and SN5, synthesized from mixed acid systems (with ratios of nitric acid and sulfuric acid of 1:1 and 1:5, respectively) were chosen because they had ...

Abstract In this study, a single layer graphene oxide is successfully synthesized and used as a nano-filler in a self-fabricated sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) to make a composite proton exchange membrane, graphene oxide/SPEEK (GO-SPEEK). The properties of GO-SPEEK, Nafion® 117 and SPEEK are then compared to ascertain their selectivity to ...

A simple and effective method for the preparation of sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) based composites with electrochemical reduced graphene oxide (EGO) as inorganic fillers has been described. The resulting dispersions are homogeneous and the cast membranes show significant improvement on tensile strength and thermal properties.

The influence of blending with polyetherimide (PEI) and doping with HCl and H3PO4 on the properties of sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) was studied. Blending with PEI first results in an increase and then in a decrease in membrane swelling at PEI concentrations greater than 5%.
