Soil CO2 emissions from summer maize fields under deficit irrigation

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2019
Irrigation practice is one of the main factors affecting soil carbon dioxide (CO2) emission from croplands and therefore on global warming. As a water-saving irrigation practice, the deficit irrigation has been widely used in summer maize fields and is expected to adapt to the shortage of water resources in Northwest China.

Effects of direct heat stress on summer maize and risk assessment

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2021
The frequency and severity of extreme heat have increased in many parts of the world under global warming, seriously threatening food security and sustainable development. Disaster risk assessment provides the basis for disaster prevention and mitigation.

Responses of the photosynthetic characteristics of summer maize to shading stress

Journal of Agronomy and Crop Science, 2023
AbstractThe vast majority of the energy and substance required for maize growth and development and related metabolic processes come from the photosynthesis of leaves. Over the past 60 years, the amount of solar radiation reaching the earth's surface has decreased significantly, reducing the photosynthetic rate of crops and leading to a significant ...

Photosynthetic Characteristics of Summer Maize Hybrids with Different Plant Heights

Agronomy Journal, 2017
Core Ideas We investigated the photosynthetic characteristics of high‐yield summer maize with different heights. We realized the regulatory effect of plant density on summer maize with different plant heights. We discussed yield potential of summer maize with different plant height. Three summer maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids with different plant heights,

Management of Furrow Irrigation and Nitrogen Application on Summer Maize

Agronomy Journal, 2014
The efficient use of water and N represents a primary concern to agricultural production in Northwest China. The objective of this study was to assess the impacts of irrigation and fertilization on water and N use, soil volatilized NH3, soil NO3 leaching, and NO3 transfer in soil profiles.

Increasing the Planting Uniformity Improves the Yield of Summer Maize

Agronomy Journal, 2017
Core Ideas With the reduction in the inter‐row spacing under the same target planting density, the final plant density and kernel numbers per area were increased. The more uniform planting improved the root growth of maize at the earlier growth stages of the crop.

[Effects of tillage at pre-planting of winter wheat and summer maize on leaf senescence of summer maize].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2016
This study explored the effects of different tillage treatments at pre-planting winter wheat and summer maize on leaf senescence physiological characteristics of summer maize in double cropping system. Zhengdan 958 was used as experimental material. Three tillage treatments, including rotary tillage before winter wheat seeding and no-tillage before ...

Effects of climate change and cultivar on summer maize phenology

2016
To identify countermeasures to the effects of climate warming on crop production, we mustunderstand the changes in crop phenology and the relationships between phenology and climatechange and cultivar. We used summer maize phenological and climate data in the North ChinaPlain, collected from 1981 to 2010.

[Effects of increasing field temperature on photosynthetic characteristics of summer maize].

Ying yong sheng tai xue bao = The journal of applied ecology, 2008
A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of increasing field temperature on the grain yield and photosynthetic characteristics of summer maize cultivars ND108 and YD13. The results showed that under increasing field temperature in the period from male tetrad to maturing stage, the grain yield of ND108 and YD13 decreased by 46.6% and 45.1%,
